when i was on the bus the other day i saw one of the cars going by with the camera on the top, i thought it was cool to see, but then when later having a look on it, when i actually realised you could go all over the world and look at locations and see actual people, i thought it was a little bit of an invasion of privacy? makes me really uncomfortable, just more proof that big brother is watching us0

The camera is mounted on top of a van, and can easily see over a 6 ft high fence.
The security implications are extremely worrying. Burgalaris Scumbagius already successfully uses Google Maps to plot their in/out route to evade the Police, now they can take a good look at your property to see if it is worth breaking-in.
In my town, there have been several burglaries where the crimes made-off along public footpaths and therefore never got caught.
Personnally, I will be requesting the complete removal of ALL images of my property from Google Maps & Streetview (may even get a discount on my insurance too).
If I wanted photos of my home on the web, then I'll be the one to post them.
How exactly do you know that Burglars plan their getaway on Google Maps?! I'd imagine they try and evade capture from the law whatever their means of planning!
And even if this service didnt exist, whats to stop them using a good old fashioned map?
Really dont see what all the fuss is about this from the Daily Mail brigade, it's a brilliant and very innovative service that doesnt display anything that couldnt be seen in person anyway.0 -

As they can do by *gulp* walking past your house. In my town, there have been several burglaries where the crimes made-off along public footpaths and therefore never got caught.
What do burglars normally do?

You might not.If I wanted photos of my home on the web, then I'll be the one to post them.
And if you don't want your house to be able to be photographed from the street, you should have put it somewhere inaccessible. Deep deep underground perhaps. Or on a cloud, floating high above the hustle and bustle.
A little forethought goes a long way.0 -

I'd say it's proof that you can take photographs of people in a public place, but whatever.0 -

Big Brother watching us? No, we are all wasting our lives watching Big Brother.0 -
im amazed at the people who are upset that there may be an image of them in google maps. If these people are so scared of people seeing images of them why were they out in a public place where photogrpahy is freely allowed?
To claim burglars now use it to evade police capture is laughable.
There's no law against taking a pic in a public place of a person in a public place. Given that these people were presumably walking down the street in a public place i really don't see what the issue is.
Unless of course, you're the guy who was photographed coming out the sex shop. Talk about bad timing!!!!

Post of the day. I find it amazing how some people will be scaremongered into believing anything. They covered this story on the radio sighting privacy concerns and I don't see the big deal. The americans have had this stuff for years, its about time google brought it over here.
P.S I'll remember to where a plastic bag over my head next time I'm in my swimming cozy, thanks.
Well I have no children but I wouldn't be happy that they were photographed outside the house that can be traced down to the very street. Any old pae*o would know there are children there, as you would practically giving them the address. Ok I accept that the risk is not very high, but it is totally unnecessary to take it.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

No it's not! The camera is mounted on a normal Vauxhall Astra car!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

So your brother had to show you, yet Al Qaeda can figure it all out by themselves?
All from satellite imagery that is probably several years out of date.Well I have no children but I wouldn't be happy that they were photographed outside the house that can be traced down to the very street. There are kids in every street in the UK. Google streetview gives you no more information than you'd get walking down the street yourself.
Google Streetview seems to be the latest in a long line of moral panics. I guess drug addict Satan worshippers use it to find buxom virgins to sacrifice too.0
