The wise thing to do here would be to get yourself a DNA test before anymore chopping and changing of names on a birth cetificate.

I was in a very similar situation to this, however I was the child.

It may seem wise for the parents to sort out who's the daddy (or whatever) but imagine how it feels for the child. Not only did I feel like crap because my father was effectively disowning me subject to biological approval, but others at school inevitably found out - which then ended up in rumours and taunts of my mum being a sl*g.

I can see where you're coming from but if you're considering this, please think of the emotional welfare of the child :(

I beleived it was mine till a couple of years later she told me that she was still seeing her old boyfriend. And wasn't sure if it was mine. She left me and went back to the other boyfreind.
His name was put on to the birth certificate
Last year she got back in touch with me and told me that the child was mine. 6 months later she's now asking if I want to be put on to the Birth Certificate
The Child is just comming up to 16.I don't know where to go to for advice about this. So any help would be appreciated.

I appreciate what your saying, but surely man a who is being told one thing, and is now being told something different also has a right to know whether this child is infact his.

From the post I was replying to it does seem that the woman infact isn't sure who the father is  why tell the op that he isn't the father then put another man's name on the bc, then after sometime tell the op that he is infact the father. It is a difficult situation for everyone, but something that should have been sorted out years ago.

I completely agree, my own dad was royally messed around in a similar manner by my mum.

I mean, maybe a DNA test is inevitably the only option, but I think it should be explained to the child and dealt with sensitively, as sadly more often than not parents get entangled in their own quarrels.
