  • I have to say, it makes things so much easier if the whole household comes on board with this debt free malarky.

My husband is not remotely interested in the stuff I learn from the forums, and I know he was frustrated in the beginning with how I wouldn't let him spend money to 'treat ourselves', but now he sees the benefit of living this way short term, he is really glad we are doing it.

You don't seem to be on a DMP? Is there a reason why you can't/won't? We were extremely lucky in that I found this site just in time, but if we were struggling to meet repayments and pay for basic living expenses, that would definitely have been the first thing I considered. And a joint DMP at that. No point you struggling to pay off your own debts only to have to tackle his years later.

Personally I wouldn't take on a loan again, as it is very inflexible.

I hope it gets easier for you GG. It's a long road but when the weight starts to lift it feels amazing!

Personally I wouldn't go down the loan route - especially if your OH is still head in sand - I do think you should at least talk thro your options with national debtline and CCCS

  • Hi GG
Haven't stopped thinking of you all day, trying to find something useful to say!

It might be worth contacting your cc providers, explain that you are struggling woth payments, not caused by any frivolity but as the result of redundancy & a lower paid job. Ask them to freeze interest, accept reduced payments for 3 or 6 months while you find your feet again properly.
I don't know much about them, but a DMP may be the answer to your prayers but I think it would need to be a joint one - I do know that they are flexible to changes in circumstances which is handy!

Mr Lurker took out consolidation loan after 18 months of 0% juggling - can't say i was happy about it BUT, it was less than cc payments had been, he opted for 4 years when they suggested 5 & there is light at the end of the tunnel with that as it will be repaid mid2011.

You have options, you also have the support and will power to do this - you've done so well since LBM1....whatever you choose to do will be the right thing for you (& MrGG)

    lots more dodgy hugs etc

    The Latest Update

I am feeling loads better than I was yesterday and this morning. In fact, earlier, I had a face like a sunburnt tomato from all the crying. Luckily that soon improved.

MrGG and I have cuddled and made up and we both hate it when we fight and we both hate it that we hear each other but don't listen to each other. I believe my way is right and he believes his way is right = catch 22.

I can't even mention DMP to MrGG he'd be totally against the idea. We'd never get a mortgage again. He believes he has the earning capacity to earn extra cash to put towards both our debts, and he will/can.

He tells me he has been paying £300 a month of one of his CC and has nearly cleared it, which is progress and for that I am proud of him. Every step is a step closer.

MrGG is fully onboard now with making the food stretch further and counting the pennies when doing the food shop. Its all progress.

In some ways, my MAJOR meltdown this weekend has helped MrGG realise how serious a situ I and, ultimately, he is in. So when he gets his paycheck we are going to formulate an action plan of where the excess cash can go.

I finally have an appt with the JC and I hope then that in the next 10 days I will be recipient of a luverly £1,500 chq from my insurers, which would be brilliant.

Having thought things through. I am not going for a loan, instead I am going to try and get the two worst CC's on to 0% cards. Wish me luck. BT seem to be less and less and for those of us who have previously BT'd, our avenues of BT offers are somewhat limited. In the meantime, I may well call my CC and ask that they freeze the APR or even reduce it for awhile. I fear that I will have a better chance of seeing pigs fly over the house.

We have had lunch round a relatives and its amazing what a few hours out of the house can do for your mood.

Hope that everyone else is doing ok. Why is Sunday night TV so bad?!

Massive thanks for everyone who has posted, it means a real lot and I'll be back to my [STRIKE]sarcastic[/STRIKE] chirpy disposition real soon.

    Til the next installment..........

Hey Mrs GG, glad you and Mr GG have had a talk, it helps to know you aren't struggling alone. I'd give the loan a miss too, I did this a few years back and wasn't disciplined enough and started spending on my CC's, my debt was way higher and starting to panic me. It's taken me years to get to a manageable amount. Good luck with the CC Co.
  • That's good to hear - fully supportive Mr GG in real world & us to support you in virtual world - tis a recipe for success that one!

good luck with transferring the balances

Oh no GG, :( I have just caught up on your diary, and I am sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time.

Can you and Mr GG both sit down with all the debt details and maybe pool your money to try and pay off the highest interest debt first together? Sort out a budget for food etc together?

My Mr c earns a good wage, and often says why can't I buy x??? I earn so and so a month?!?!? It is frustrating and I feel like a stuck record sometimes...if he calls me budget queen once more he may begin to reside under the patio!!!!!

I feel sick and stupid when I look at my credit card debt, and I too feel angry at myself. But it's done, and as long as you learn by your mistakes then your on the right road. Don't be to tough on yourself.;)

Take care, hope you have a better week, and you never know...the suit that flashes your lady bits.....could be what gets you a payrise!!

hi gg - it will be so much better if you work together to clear your debts... so hopefully something good will come out of this weekend. The cheque from the insurers will take some pressure off too I would have thought.... Have you decided how best to use it yet? May be worth just putting it towards your overdraft to stop the repeated charges?
