There is a slight problem. It has been shut down and you can't register or add anymore credit.

You can do both, go to the homepage and read the red banner at the top

correct - I'm not sure about the texts your friend will send to you though - on my O2 contract it says that from abroad it uses the allowance at 4 for 1; others may charge 30 or 40p

If your friend intends quite a bit of use there, it could be a good idea to get a local SIM card and use either a calling card or callback service

are you sure about this, cos if thats the case then I've been robbed, my friend went on holiday recently, but because O2 (both phones were on O2) can tell the phone is connected to another service provider while he was in Spain, the text messages did not come from my allowance but actually cost me pennies.

It should be but better check with your operator first.

Btw O2 tell me that the international bolt on for calling other EU countries from 5p -7p a minute has been discontinued.
I wish they would update their website! I wonder how long their 10 quid 100 mins/txts offer is going to last :S

It's still on the menu - call 4444 and press 2 1 3 - it was free, but that offer expired

@ 5limJim - sorry to miss replying - that's the info in the welcome leaflet a month ago, but I haven't used any abroad yet; I'll know in 2 or 3 weeks
