    Hi everyone

ANOTHER newbie to the thread, my month has run from 24th Feb and will go to 29th March. My budget is £60 for the month for myself and the cat, includes all meals, cleaning stuff (am very well stocked though) but no cosmetics. So far, £8.52. Yay! Got to buy cat food, cat litter, fruit and veg today though. Loads of stuff in cupboard for me... So far so good.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

My budget's been messed up already too. In-laws phoned on Thursday to say they'd come over Saturday but it snowed on Friday so they said they'd come Sunday but we had more snow!

I've frozen what I can as they might now come next weekend but still have extra food in the house which won't keep and will have to buy more cream, veg etc next weekend.

Well I'm doing okay, expectionally (sp?) well for my shopping budget and I might still be able to hit my target although I'll probably be just over by the looks of things.

I was in town today and so brought some things from the meat market which I probably could have done without but I guess if its good it will save me money next month as I can buy meat packs from there instead of tescos.

I've got two more supermarket shops to go but I do have a full freezer so its little bits and bobs...lets just hope that the bill is little as well lol. I have £34 left to hit target so we'll have to see, I'd really like to hit target so that I can use the excess to pay of British Gas .

Good luck with the GC everyone. :)

Walked into town to do errands and pick up bits at Tesco's - I'd forgotten how expensive toothbrush heads are retail!!! Ah well, another good reason to stock up on 'em next time I'm at Costco :)

£27.74 including that pack of £13.89 heads.

    total spent this month: £67.77

got to pop to the shop tomorrow to do a little bit of shopping. Im going to lidls and this is my first venture since the lovely tesco man brought my monthly shop. Ive got my list prepared(only essentials ie bread milk etc), hopefully i will be strong and must make sure i eat lunch before i go or i tend to pick up extra bits. does anyone else have that habit?

i used to be terrible at impulse buying as i always seemed to go food shopping when i was hungry, and the bread, roast chicken smells etc make it even worse.

Now i always venture out food shopping well fed, or chew gum like a woman possessed. I keep a box gum in the car to stop me buying chocolate, crisps, etc when i fill the car up with fuel.

It is still spending but a 80p pack lasts me a month, and it saves me far more than this.

  • Hi Everyone. Well most of you seem to be doing better than me. I had another big shop today (I took my 16 year old son so that always adds heaps to the total). I am determined to meet this challenge so shall be living out of the cupboard/freezer and surviving on beans on toast at the end of the month if necessary! (Just need to convince the kids). Have a good week.

Thank you to MSE contributers who are a great help to keep me motivated to take care with my spending.

    Hey everyone

Going OK with the challenge so far. Lots of stuff in the cupboards/freezers and off food shopping tonight armed with a very good shopping list! I anticipate to do most of the month's shopping tonight with top ups for veg/milk for the next three weeks.

Should be OK, fingers crossed! I really want us to come under/on budget as I want us to aim lower next month!

    Good luck everyone :T

So far so good. Had a quick look round the cupboards this morning and everything seems to be well stocked. Which means that we should have a cheap shop this weekend again. This is all good, as I have decided to put to one side any savings made from my monthly grocery budget. Towards what I don't know....but I'm sure I'll think of some sort of nice surprise for us all to enjoy at some point.

This weekend I'm going to make some individual shepherds pies (and possibly cottage pies too).....now that I have room in the freezer to put them that is.
