Although it does make you travel sick as it wooshes between destinations. But it is well worth downloading and using. It makes streetview much easier to use.
As for the critics. Every single thing anyone ever does is going to upset someone somewhere but its no reason not to do it.
When they first started building passenger railways in this country they said it wasn't natrual for humans to travel faster than a horse could run and that the shock of seeing a train would kill all the livestock in fields.
You can control the speed of the "wooshes between destinations" in the settings, as well as detail, and other things.0 -

It only shows what tyhe general public can see anyway it's not an invasion of privacy until they get cameras INSIDE your house, then you can moan.0 -
It only shows what tyhe general public can see...
Street view around us shows all the gardens and backs of houses which I would contest is an invasion of our privacy.0 -

I take it you don't have a mobile phone then?
Anyone with a regisitered mobile phone is carrying around a personal tracking device that can be used to track your every movement. I would be more worried about this invasion of privacy than Googles Street View.0 -

When you drag the yellow man and just hold it over the map the areas and roads that are covered are highlighted in blue. drag it to the road then let go and should work, note that there is a little circle below the man which is the area you actually view not what the man is over.
pm me if you need anymore help.
