Just seen our Mother in full view (no blur) on a public path by a public road. She was disabled and the picture shows this. Bit of a shock.
And the fact she died last October.

    Bloody google.

I'm very sorry for the death of your mother and I am sorry for his disability but she was on a public path, if she didn't want to be seen or you didn't want others to see her, she should have never left her house and remain in isolation. Of course, this sounds absurd but so does the statement you said. It's not like Google went into a private area and started photographing and it's not like Google is isolating her from millions of people, she is part of the public.

Unless you walk down the road with your eyes closed you can do this everyday. They have only travelled down public roads and photographed what you would see normally as a member of the public.

    1. I have not walked along every public road in the UK and

    2. I am not 12 foot high and

    3. I didn't have a 360degree camera with me and

    4. I didn't publish all the images on the Internet.

They took a picture of my Mother and sent it to everybody. My Mother didn't want ANYBODY to take a picture of her when she was alive. Similarly, she certainly wouldn't have wanted ANYBODY to take a picture of her when she was alive and then send it to everybody when she was dead.

Google didn't send it to everyone, you make it sound like she was selected out of millions of people and was highlighted for attention. A TV crew could have easily drove past, filming a TV show and your mother could have been in the shot, and if someone pauses that shot, it would be the same thing as what Google has done.

We will agree to disagree but I see nothing wrong with this. Google didn't target your mother, she was just in the scene.

I've known about this for a long time and people, if you want a more smooth experience and better interface, download, install and run Google Earth and tick Street View in the check box at the bottom left of the interface. You will see yellow cameras on roads, just double click one of them to be taken into Street View. Using Street View via Google Earth is a more pleasant experience in my opinion!

For those new to Google Earth, be sure to go to the application settings and set textures to large and detail to high.

can i ask you a question?

i'm thinking of downloading google earth and giving it a try after reading your post.

would you say it is really worth it?

also, is it very large? i don't want unnecessary bloatware on my pc.

and also, what about adverts? i heard somewhere that they are starting to embed adverts in it? they're not a problem in a browser, because i use a firefox extension to block them, but are there many in google earth and how intrusive are they?

sorry for all the questions. :o

    Bloody google.

That could have been very upsetting.

You could try contacting them and asking them to remove it, don't know if they would but they should at least blur the face. Tell them it is causing a lot of distress to family members, would be interesting to know what they say/do if you do contact them.

What do you mean by bloatware? If you mean spyware/adware/malware embedded into programs, Google Earth has none of this (and if it did, the installation usually allows you to not install additional things and even if it didn't, there are free anti-spyware applications that clean your PC of junk)

When you go to the download page of Google Earth, there will be a tick box to also install Google Chrome (a web browser). If you do not want to download Google Chrome whilst downloading Google Earth, simply untick the box.

Google Earth has many more features than Google Maps but it is also a lot smoother. Try it, and I am here if you need assistance. The application is not very large and no ads.
