or you could just register with the mail preference service and not have to bother at all.
If that stopped you getting junk mail I am pleased for you. Did nothing to reduce the endless stream that falls through my door :p

    Hi Penrhyn,

Not long to wait - The Butterfly Jungle reopens for business on 24th March (although it's closed on Tuesdays).

SHOCK NEWS!!! It seems that the Conwy Butterfly Jungle hasn't re-opened for business and the proprietor has surrendered the lease.

If anyone is interested in buying a second hand butterfly jungle then now's your chance.
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water

Why not just contact the company concerned and ask them to take you off their mailing list? They are obliged to by law, and I never get any junk mail since I started doing it. I know junk mail can be annoying if you're not interested in what's for sale, but some people actually want to receive the information, so it's a bit misleading to imply that all junk mail is necessarily bad - I would suggest that the measures meted out in other posts may be warranted for a company who continually sends out mail despite the recipient making it clear that it's unwanted, but if you contact them straight away and ask to be removed, you should find that it's a simple process.

Having said that, it's not really as funny as a solution - sorry! :rotfl:

P.S Bad news about the butterfly jungle - I am sorely tempted...

Stick ten 1p coins to a piece of paper and put it in the envelope along with your name and address.

Then write to them 1 week later saying you sent it in error and they now have your 10p which they are not entitled to and demand your money back.

Wait for cheque and expect to be blacklisted from their mailing list.

    You're an evil genius....I think....
  • I'd be careful with the house brick/paving slab one.

I used to work for a leaflet company, and sometimes people would send things back, that generally had their address on, to us. We used to just tear off our address and return to sender, had some irate phone calls. But what's good for the goose!

Thats not gonna do anything at all, if the company sends it back with no postage paid the postman will ring your doorbell and ask for some money so you just say no thanks and he takes it away again and sends it back to the sender (i.e. leftlet company) who then have to pay again for postage plus the fine

I am registered with mailing preference service, but you often need to register variations of your name or previous occupants names to be fully effective. I have also registered with the Post Office opt out scheme which gets rid of a lot of enveloped but not stamped/ addressed junk.

For a while I was still getting Capital One applications every couple of weeks - I would stick the lot back into the prepaid envelopes with (initially polite) messages asking to be removed from the mailing list. Wish I'd thought of putting other companies junk mail in! :rotfl:

Edited to add: I have had to communicate with Royal Mail about the opt out scheme being ignored by some posties and even just dumping their spare leaflets on the floor in our reception (littering!). One advisor was v helpful, another absolutely refused to accept that advertising leaflets are "junk mail" - called them unaddressed mail - she should have worked as a spin doctor.
