I think a sick day is the best excuse. You have already said that you don't care if they sack you so I think that is your best bet.

Possibly... I still may need the agency that put me there in future tho so don't want to upset them.... Hopefully wouldn't need them for at least a year tho....!

You have to do what feels right for you. I had to leave a job a week in because I got a better job. I felt really bad, because I work in the the voluntary sector and know that they don't have much money for advertising etc. But at the same time, I was supporting OH in uni and needed as much money as possible.

Hi CMD - yeah tricky - I can cope with leaving once I know I have the job but it is the disloyal feeling while still working there that is trickier! While sorely tempted (still) to just walk out it doesn't seem very mse :money:to turn my back on more money in a day than I could get in a week from job seekers.... (especially as they job seekers people wouldn't give me any if I left)...

At the same time to turn my back on 25% more money would be stupid! so I need a little red book of excuses....
    • My aunt is terminal with cancer - considered using that one but seems rather callous - could make it true by visiting her while down there
    • There is the kids are ill thing - but that makes you look unreliable
    • There is the personal business thing - but highly suspicious and could be turned down
    • There is the package/delivery arriving thing but really I need a whole day and they know I have an OH so not that credible
    • There is the mysterious something's come up think I have to deal with - but like CMD says - what if they say no you can't go?
    • There is the truth - but that is likely to bring a swift conclusion to my role???
In my favour since I am there via an agency in theory they should be less pushy for reasons... What has also really annoyed me is I have read some minutes saying they are still looking for an internal perm person for the role whereas they told my agency the job was mine for 6 months...

I defo wouldn't use the aunt excuse. I wouldn't be able to. I would still be inclined to use the sickness excuse.

Thanks CMD - would be interested to hear if anyone else has suggestions... My problem is I can't keep a straight face when I lie... and similarly you would hear it in my voice. When I needed time off for this week's interview I sent an e-mail!:rotfl:albeit in good time!

Hi SH, I think I'd go with the sicky but I am quite good a fibbing! (Obviously not something I put on my CV!)

Well done on getting so far with the job! Every time I pop in you seem to have just had an interview or just going to one! You're an inspiration! :D:T

Thanks Raini - it is nice to meet another of my lurkers!:T I have had quite a few interviews - partly because most of the roles I apply for have 2 or 3 stages each! The biggest guilt thing is that I have a meeting booked first thing that morning.... :o without that meeting I would feel less guilty!!:p
