Merlin - don't ever be afraid to tell it how it is, sometimes folks need that. I have been on these boards for a long time now and in that time I have been called a troll and all sorts of stuff but I really don't give a monkeys because at the end of the day I have tried to give advice, if people don't like it or don't want it then basically its tough.

I think that you need to concentrate on yourself for a change and put you first - it is easy when you are on your own to become inward thinking and to some extent give up on problems because it is easier to try and fix someone else's problems other than your own. Remember that we are here to give you support should you need it.

No need to beat yourself up about calling a spade a spade.

Run yourself a hot bath, have a soak and maybe a glass of something and concentrate on you for a time.

    Merlin

When we were all kids we wanted everyone to like us. To begin with, they did (when we were at the baby stage). Then we went to school and found out that a) not everyone liked us and b) nor everyone was nice like in the story books. So it is on here. Just because most of the regulars seem decent sorts we start thinking everyone will be. The fact is you cannot please everyone, Merlin, so don't even waste time trying. Some of the new posters will be in a very fragile state emotionally because of their problems, and when they encounter a frank reply to their questions they take it personally. Well, we all try to be kind and sensitive to newbies ( says she, who has been around on this forum for all of 2 months or so!) but sometimes you need someone who won't beat about the bush. You, Merlin, I can see will not call a spade a spade when you can call it a ruddy shovel, and I respect you for that. It is so frustrating when people won't take on board the advice you are giving, but you just have to tell it as it is and let them get on with it. So, this is how it is, Merlin - now get on with what you obviously have a talent for - helping people with honest, good advice. The DFW board would be a sad place without people like you.

With you on that and it's taken me a whle to work out which now. ;)

Oh, no one liked me at school. I am not what you'd call 'brainy' not like those kids in the Cadbury's ad with the undulating eyebrows 'brainy' but being knowledgeable, showing that got me into trouble at times. :D

If anything I've gone more like Catherine Tate of late. Which isn't bad but that's the 'shovel' thing at work there. :D
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

Same here - I was always too intelligent for my own good, wouldnt go to university though despite having the brains because I didnt want to conform or be bored and I am the same now - I get bored easily and where I would let things get to me, I don't anymore because life is too short and if people don't like me then so be it as I am not going to lose any sleep over it.

    Chin up Merlin.:D

    Are you bovvered?

A little mantra from the late, great Albert Einstein for all us brainboxes who can't find a square hole to fit in...... Great spirits will always face opposition from mediocre minds.

  • In my mind right now is one of those fairground games. The ones where you whack the frogs that pop up out of the hole. :rotfl:

With you on that, Horace. Conforming always bored me, I prefer to be an individual. ;)

  • It's not me I swear; we've never met. But it was strange as it popped into my head before I replied. :D

Perhaps we should invent a DFW verison of the game where trolls pop up and get whacked with whatever perfidious device Merlin has by his bed.
