On the Microsoft link 'Mrebo' posted it says download now and underneath for 'Windows XP', does this mean it's not compatible with Windows Vista?

If you use this link, you can select which language and version (XP, Vista etc) to download.

Tried it, and it's dog slow at loading up. Creative's software autoupdater wouldn't work, so I tried to uninstall IE8 - computer says no!

I tried it too for a couple of (wasted) hours and had the same problem: it took ages to open..like 15 seconds! from either quicklaunch or double clicking the IE icon on desktop.

However once loaded, all my favourites links loaded instantly, but opening a new tab took between 6 and 10 seconds  ! Tried googling for solutions but seems a lot of people are experiencing similar sluggish problems. Disabled all the extra features, all add ons - made no difference = now uninstalled and back to IE7 :p and everything now back to normal.

@basmic - not sure why you can't uninstall but uninstall worked ok for me, assuming you're on Vista then Start/Windows Update/View update history/Installed updates...and IE8 will be listed to remove. (Control panel/programs/programs & features/installed updates...another route, same destination).

Well I've installed IE8 and so far no problems. It's just as fast to load as IE7 for me, if not quicker. I'm running Vista and had a problem with IE7 freezing. This hasn't happened so far with IE8. There seem to be a few new ideas like suggesting websites for you based on your previous searches but I'm not interested in that. So far I'm pleased with it.

I managed to uninstall IE8. I was looking in Add/Remove Programs for Microsoft Internet Explorer or Internet Explorer - instead, it was called Windows Internet Explorer...hmm!

Been running IE8 since Thursday without any problems.

I originally installed it because IE7 was constantly crashing.

Done a clean XP install last night.
Installed IE8 and FF3 this morning.
It's definitely quicker at starting than Firefox

But Firefox has noscript and Microsoft can get to IE21,
but if they don't get that simple addon sorted that is NoScript,
they're still not going to be a serious option.
    IMO...

Also, i've noticed IE8's messing about from some my CSS menus on a particular
website so I'm suspicious Microsoft is up to its old tricks (MHTML...)
Oh on the other hand, they may be fixing their previous indiscretions and it may well be my fault.

I'm not too sure about IE8. I always use the touchpad on my laptop to move a page up and down, but it's always slow at doing it. I suppose other than that it's ok.

I instaled it without any problems. Interesting that Abbey show's me a message saying my browser is not supported but luckily they also give the option to continue anyway.

I had a similar thing with EGG money which downloaded an update and then tells you that the browser is not fully compatable, you can then put IE8 into compatability mode and it works fine
