Credit Report Help

Hi,

A few years back my mum applied for credit cards etc in my name without my knowledge and ran up debt on them, then defaulted on them. I went mental when I found out. I think that she has been paying something to them though since defaulted.

Of course, they are showing on my credit report, is there anyway of getting the debt/records of them removed from my credit report without getting my mum into trouble?

Thanks for any advice anyone can give.

Sadly, it is not unusual. We have a number of people to whom it happened and I cannot personally see a way of doing this, unless she took credit out in her own name and cleared the cards.

This seems to be popular today, obtaining cards by deception.

I don't really see how TBH, because surely if you did then that would mean this would all come to light? I think you need to ask yourself, and I don't know what relationship you have with your mother, is would this be the best course of action?
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.
  • Thought that might be the case, thank you very much for your prompt replies.
  • My other piece of advice would now be ... to make sure it doesn't happen again. And, possibly, look into the reasons why it has.

  • Sorry folks - me again, been reading the Experian website, could I e-mail them and claim it is identity fraud? If an investigation was to be carried out what would happen though?

Sorry, I know this sounds ridiculous, I just don't want to get my mum into trouble.
  • I could lie to you .... There again, logically your mother would be investigated as would you, yourself I'd imagine. Be aware that it would likely be a criminal investigation, possibly involving the police. Not sure about that but ID fraud/theft is taken seriously nowadays.

You already know it's ID fraud and that your mother was involved. So why would you need to? Are relations not that good for example? The trouble I think you'd face is you know who has done it ... so how could it be ID fraud ie a third party involvement? The statements I'd think have been going to her house/place of residence?

  • Yeah, sorry, I see what you mean.

Thanks for all your advice anyway.
  • Sorry couldn't be more help. Would like to be sometimes but who knows everything? ;)

    These may be of help

    http://www.uk.experian.com/contactforms/consumer_onlinedisassociation.html

    ....and this from Equifax;-

You can apply for a Notice of Disassociation if there is credit agreement information on your Credit Report that relates to a person with whom you have no financial association. You can complete an on-line form.

Equifax has up to 28 days to complete the process of adding the Notice of Disassociation to your credit file.
  • Thanks for that link, I'm not sure that it applies to me though, the debts are all in my name on my report, my mum isn't mentioned anywhere on it or even as a financial association.

Surely there must be some way of me being able to dipute the debts and at least say they are not mine... mind you... what would that throw up lol
