Thank you for all your messages.
I've got some happy/sad news...I had the baby on Sunday night, he was born a healthy 7lb 4oz and 54cms. I was only at the hospital for an hour or so before he arrived (spontaneous vaginal delivery so basically he just shot out when no-one was expecting it) however he isn't quite the baby I was expecting. When he was given to me I asked the midwives what was wrong with him, they looked at him and took him away, he was diagnosed with Downs shortly after. I got to take him home yesterday but I'm still in a bit of a state of shock about it and have taken it quite badly and couldn't bring myself to talk about it, even typing about it is making me cry.
So all you preganat ladies out there...even if your blood test comes back that you're a low risk for Downs and should be in the age category that 'it doesn't happen to' then please remember that I'm only 23 and I've have already had a perfectly 'normal' baby and that Downs can happen to anyone xxx
P.s My pad for today is £30.00 to make up for missing yesterday.
Hi Angelicmary
Congratulations on your lovely bundle of joy.
I'm not sure what to say but there have been so many medical advancements that maybe there is something that the medics will be able to help with. My little one was born with some major complications and everyday I thank god for the medics and the advancement of knowledge. You will get through it; you'll be surprised when you look back and see what you have achieved.
Good Luck

I'm not going to pretend that I have a clue what you're going through because although life has thrown many challenges my way, none of them are remotely like the one that you now face. All I can really say is that every feeling that you feel is OK and not to judge any of them - even the ones that may seem darker for you.
Loads of hugs to you.
I don't suppose this is much help right now but when I hit a difficult period of my life some years ago, a friend texted the following to me:-

Thank you all so much for your messages, I'm a mix of emotions because it's such a happy time. I didn't really want to shout about my wee man's downs just for the sake of it as I don't really think that it's important (although it is, if you see what I mean) but I felt that here was the only place I could really 'talk' about it as my OH is coping really well and just taking it all in his stride.
We've been told that our wee man hasn't got any of the major complications associated with downs (no heart/stomach/bowel probs, he's alert and really wriggly) which is a really positive sign but we'll find out tomorrow which strain of downs that he has and I'm scared that what they tell me isn't going to be what I want to hear.
I'm still hiding from the leaflets and the info that F_F posted for me but I feel a bit better now and tomorrow is a whole new day!
Thanks again...you guys are awesome xxxStarted PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

Thats really good news.
I think its completely understandable that you are a mix of emotions at the minute, especially as it is so unexpected.
Concentrate on the positives that you have a gorgeous little boy and a very supportive OH by the sounds of it. When your ready to talk im sure there will be people there for (including us lot), and im sure when your feeling upto it all the leaflets, information etc will be helpful for you.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby, he will bring you so much joy!
They say that Special Babies go to Special People and in a few days when your hormones and emotions have settled, things will be brighter.
Take Care, Mac x
