Hi
Thank you for the hug Edwardia - I will return one to you ((((Edwardia))))
I do add the fibre to the carbs when I create an item on fitday but it would be easier to find and English website, if there was one. I am a bit of a freak in that I like to make sure that I get enough fibre, vitamins and minerals and fitday shows me those. Had a lot of constipation on this diet in the past, despite lots of veg.
No ketones again this morning so maybe I will have to go lower than 35 carbs?
I do understand the water retention but I have only lost 7lb in the last 3 months and don't know why I am not losing as I still am 3 + stone over my ideal weight. Lost 5 + stone easily last year but now it is a real struggle.
Sorry to go on about me but your ideas and encouragement are really helping and it is good to talk with people who understand and don't condemn!!
Have a good day everyone and keep smiling
It is a fact often reported that weightloss slows as you get slimmer - the obvious reason being that you need to use less energy to move your current body weight around compared to moving your earlier body weight around. There are other things that affect the speed of weightloss as well. Try this lecture for an understanding of why: Obesity: Ten Things You Thought You Knew
But... one of my personal faves is the lecture I posted on the low fat lunchbox thread last night. The Battle of the Diets: Is Anyone Winning (At Losing?) "The case for low-carbohydrate diets is gaining weight. Christopher Gardner, PhD, assistant professor of medicine at the Stanford Prevention Research Center, has completed the largest and longest-ever comparison of four popular diets using real-world conditions, which he discusses - the lowest-carbohydrate Atkins diet came out on top."
One of the things Gardner points out is that people often buy the book but don't actually read it properly and even if they do and understand the diet they don't always follow it properly. So for example, on Atkins (cos I only know that one): Phase 2/Ongoing weight loss is induction plus nuts, berries and yoghourts; Phase 3/Pre-Maintenance (within 10lb of goal weight) is Phase 2 plus fruits and legumes, but grains are from phase 4 - i.e. Maintenance, which (on Atkins) should be for when you've reached your goal weight and want to keep it there. I've used Atkins as the example because I know it but the principle's the same - you get the best results if you're actually following the diet. Apologies if you are and that's completely off trackEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

daska - always good to read your comments
I only eat berries (occasionaly), nuts and seeds as stated on OWL.
I have had the odd ryvita (1 -2 a week) as I can't find any bread alternatives that I can have (can't have flax) but will cut them out now.
Guess that I just want to lose a bit as I have been hovering around the same weight for several weeks nowI have come down from 19+ stone, which is great, so I shouldn't moan really but it would be nice.
How is everyone doing today?
nuttybabe - will look at myfitnesspal later but don't have a smartphone
Still some people missing that were posting a while back - hannoja, Minihauk, Sunnyday, narabanekeater - if you see this then let us know how you are doing?
Mercy - when are you going on holiday and how is the anti cig campaign going?0 -

If your protein intake is too high, your liver (through some Harry Potter stuff) can convert protein into glucose. You might need to cut it down and increase fat. Nuts. Spoons of peanut butter! I don't know your diet so I couldn't comment.
You could probably increase your exercise but there's a list of "plateau breakers" on the reddit keto forum which I've found useful. The causes are at the top, the appropriate fixes at the bottom.
By berries... you mean strawberries/blackberries/raspberries sometimes blueberries?0 -
sheila54 thanks for the hug .. mind you I'm a bit full. I tried IF this morning and despite Metformin BG 9.9 eek. IF not for me and not supposed to have Metformin on an empty stomach. IF also made me hungry so I just had a huge brunch.. I fried some Polish ham (not that good tbh) with a couple of free range eggs and some mushrooms in a mixture of olive oil, Czech butter, goose fat and ghee
Then added a whole sliced up Mozzarella over the top. Most breakfast I've eaten in awhile.
jackjones86 is right... a consultant told me 58% of protein converts to glucose.
sound advice from daska there.. I admit as I'm low carbing for life rather than as a weight loss diet, I don't follow any particular plan. I won't cook any recipe that's more than 10g carbs per serving but I pick n mix recipes from Atkins, South Beach, Dr Briffa, Celia Brooks Brown, Dana Carpender, Linda Gassenheimer, Rose Elliot, Carlton Fredericks plus other cook books and just knock stuff together - pretty easy for me tho as college-trained ex-chef. I went to library and photocopied recipes from low carb books and got all the Atkins books from charity shops.
It was strange adding fat into my diet when my whole life I was told low fat was the way. I am convinced of the science so it's a matter of using the full fat versions and fidgeting fat in everywhere.
Thanks Skymist for the research that's really helpful. I shall go to Sainsbos or Morries after I've seen GP. Mine is on hols so I have to go see old school guy who doesn't approve of low carbing0 -
I think IF is how I normally eat. On weekdays I don't eat breakfast or lunch, have a snack sixish and then something more substantial about an hour later. I might eat a few peanuts or something similar later on but apart from that nothing.
Weekends are a bit different as I eat a brunch at midday and then dinner at sevenish.0 -

I wish I could go back to IF, it is my natural eating habit, but these bleedin' meds won't let me - when it comes up to repeat prescription time I'm going to ask the GP if there's any way of modifying how many doses I take. I'd usually have my 'big' meal when DS2 has his at about 4.30 but there's no way that fits with missing breakfast or not eating too late at night which I find isn't good for me either.
SHEILA54, if you suspect you've been mainly out of ketosis then it might just be easier to go back to induction to kick start things again. (Boring, I know!) But hopefully it'll get you back on track and smiling.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

jackjones86 - murphydog999 suggested that I wasn't eating enough protein for dinner. For my size I have computed that I should have a minimum of 74g protein a day. In fact I have between 80 and 100g on average. Berries are usually 1 - 2 oz of raspberries or blueberries 2 - 3 times a week. I am trying to use the exercise bike 3 - 4 times a week.

very interesting to read. Thanks
daska - I went back to induction for 2 weeks a couple of weeks ago and lost the 3lb I had put on + 1lb extra. I seem to hover around the same weight no matter what I do as I can gain / lose 3lb but there doesn't seem to be any further loss.
nuttybabe - myfitnesspal says that items that have carbs on fitday e.g. salad, eggs etc don't have any carbs?
Edwardia - I know that this is a choice for life but I need to loose weight as well, if I can. I don't know if I should IF either as I have a stomach problem that flares up if I leave it too long between meals.
Gloomendoom - how is the weight loss going? Interested to know if IF works?
Have cut out bacon, ham, sweeteners, jelly. Cut down to 1 decaff coffee a day, half cup tea.
breakfast - 2 egg omelette with cheese and salad
lunch - 2 oz chicken, half avocado & salad, half tbsp mayo.
evening - cottage pie with cauli mash and veg
treats / extras - 100g yoghurt, 5 almonds, tbsp seeds, 1 sq 70% chocolate with half tbsp coconut oil
drinks - 1 decaff coffee with tbsp cream, water, 5oz lactofree milk, 1 tsp Marigold stock in hot water
30 carbs
You are all very kind with your advice so thank you!!0 -
Shelia - eggs dont have carbs do they? maybe eggs only have the carbs that are deducted over here which is why they are showing on fitday??? i dont know, when i put in a days worth of food and i had roughly worked out what i thought it was, it said similar so i thought it ok. i dont use it often just because i cant be bothered putting stuff in and searching.
i am having pizza for tea. instead of a base i put mince and hot sauce in the tomato sauce. its really nice. i did top it with lots of cheese, pepperoni, ham, chicken, onion, olives and slices of tomato.0 -
nuttybabe - Yes eggs have 0.6 carbs for 1 large egg.
Enjoy your pizza, it sounds yummy
