Understand Edwardia as spent 5 hours in car going to visit elderly relatives with dementia. Exhausted now.
I always roast a chicken and keep it on standby for meals / snacks as I don't like it pre-packaged. Thanks for idea to grind nuts / seeds for breading, will make a change.
I pumpkin seed ryvita is 6.7 net carbs and has 2.2g fibre. Had it as an alternative to bacon as I don't like egg on it's own. I still worry a bit about fats as I seem to have around 125g a day with 40 - 45g saturated fat according to fitday.
I don't like pork but do like a slice of bacon or a sausage with my egg for breakfast. Will do without this week to see if it helps. I wish I had a farm shop nearby where I knew how meat was prepared but am not aware of one. There is a farmers market on Saturday about 4 miles away so may check that out.

I often use Romaine as a 'carrier' for things like pate so I know what you mean about the absence of bread with scrambled egg - I tend to have an omelette instead, a couple of mushrooms give a bit more 'chew'. Flax crackers would give you more bang for your buck carb wise and they won't contain wheat, gluten or soya, all of which are frequent candidates for intolerances.
Do you ever check whether you're still actually in ketosis?Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

daska -good idea but flax gives me stomach gripes and I seem to get a tight chest. It is ok if in small amounts mixed with other seeds though. May try an omelette with salad tomorrow, if my daughter hasn't pinched my eggs!
I do check ketosis every couple of days in the morning and sometimes my urine shows ketones and sometimes not. Seems no rhyme or reason to explain the difference. Trying to stick to 35 carbs a day, which I thought should be ok as I have now been doing this for 10 months.
Evening mazzers and Mercy, how have your days been?0 -
The number of carbs you can eat and maintain weight depends on you as an individual so if it's not showing ketones then you may not actually be in ketosis, or it may be that you're just on or over your personal limit for losing. The other thing is that the carb counts on fitday may be wrong - e.g I know they have two different carb counts for romaine lettuce. Maybe do a few days right back to basics (testing to check it's working) then bring it back up again slowly and see where it stops?
shame about the flax but I know the gripes well and am enjoying not having them - even if I'm still not 100% sure what of the wheat/gluten/nightshade is the cause.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Put on 3lb this week but did have half a piece of chocolate cake when away
Don't be silly! To put on 3lbs, you'd have need to overeaten by 10000+ calories. That's basically an extra 13.5 meals - never mind cheating.
On keto, your water levels fluctuate like crazy - why do you think you're peeing a lot more (well, you should be). Weigh a glass of water! I've had a 3 pound gain followed by a 5 pound LOSS the next day!
Being overweight didn't happen overnight. You don't gain it overnight. Just be patient!0 -
Sheila54, have a hug ((((Sheila54))))
Fitday.. presumably this is American ? If so, the nutritional guidelines and food values will be different. In the UK and EU carbs are already separated from fibre, so if you're subtracting fibre from carbs with a UK product you're underestimating the carbs. Fitday is aimed at the low fat calorie counting brigade, not low carbers.
As low carbers we're aiming to make our metabolism switch from burning carbs to burning fat for energy and aiming to ingest fewer carbs so we produce less insulin and can therefore lose weight by allowing our bodies to burn our excess fat.
If you are worried about saturated fat please watch the saturated fat video on Youtube which I mentioned in an earlier post. Dr Williams is a professor of surgery, a cardiac surgeon and a low carber. He explains the reasons why the low fat thing came about and why the myths about fats are wrong.
I bought myself some goose fat today to add to the ghee and coconut oil experiment. I'm going to try lard and dripping if I can find them too !0 -
Hi
Thank you for the hug Edwardia - I will return one to you ((((Edwardia))))
I do add the fibre to the carbs when I create an item on fitday but it would be easier to find and English website, if there was one. I am a bit of a freak in that I like to make sure that I get enough fibre, vitamins and minerals and fitday shows me those. Had a lot of constipation on this diet in the past, despite lots of veg.
No ketones again this morning so maybe I will have to go lower than 35 carbs?
I do understand the water retention but I have only lost 7lb in the last 3 months and don't know why I am not losing as I still am 3 + stone over my ideal weight. Lost 5 + stone easily last year but now it is a real struggle.
Sorry to go on about me but your ideas and encouragement are really helping and it is good to talk with people who understand and don't condemn!!
Have a good day everyone and keep smiling0 -
