Hiya, glad to see everyones posting agai, Osireo I was made redundant 9 years ago, going to register my forms for NI contributions was daunting enough, I felt so stupid cos I didn't know the procedure, probably wouldn't worry me half as much now, and your right you've paid in for years what's so shaming about accepting a bit of assistance now, don't worry you are doing something to change your circumstances but these things do take time.

Hi all, have had another reasonable debt busting day, now that I am solvent I an trying to bash the last few debts on the head. First is the overdraft which is really annoying me, I am always perilously close to having things bouncs as I live in my overdraft and ams sick of the charges, also have had to borrow out of my quidco money this month when I am trying to save it, to avoid hitting od limit.

So, I have applied for a card recommended by Martin, which lets you transfer cash directly into your account, which I am going to use to clear od, put quidco money back and clear flexiloan (which I also use all the time:mad: ). It will be at 0% for 10 months and I hope to easily clear it by then and be able to keep out of the od and avoid the charges. I don't like the feeling of taking on another cc when I am trying to clear things but essentially I will have the same level of debt, just in a different place and at 0%. I will chop the card up as soon as it arrives to avoid spending on it.

Also won £25 on a scratchcard:j so I will collect that tomorrow and won't have to draw any cash out for a few days. Have put coins in the piggy as well and not spent very much except on lottery, papers and milk (and wine:D ) and have bagged up some coins which need paying in, so all in all a good debt busting day, spoiled a bit by the anxiety of having another cc, but in the circumstances it was the best thing to do. I don't want to withdraw any savings as I like the security of having them, but I won't add to them until cc is cleared in full.

Hope everyone has had a good day and has wine and chocs to hand:D

    Hi sarah,

well done on a succesful day & great news to get a 0 % card - please post here when you have cut it up to avoid temptation. I'm not being bossy ( much) just trying to help you avoid temptation, I'm sure that if I could transfer mine to 0 % it would actually be disastrous as I just couldnt help myself :o

Oooh fab news re scratchcard :j I keep meaning to choose a set of lottery numbers & srat plying again but the no spend habit is now so entrenched I dont even think about stuff like that anymore. I need to get a life

So, if you dont mind me asking, how long until you can act on your house buying plans ?

Will do, I don't want to incur the wrath of a captain or whatever level of authority you are today:D

Well... At the end of the year I will be able to think about it, but realistically 2 years. I want to get as much together as possible as a deposit, the current economic climate is quite good for me:o as my job is safe and I have savings/fixed rate loans so will avoid nasty surprises, and my credit rating must be quite good as I have been accepted for another cc.

As soon as I get a mortgage I want to start overpaying immediately so I need it to be quite low, hence the need for large deposit/rich man. Am hoping to save 50k (eeek:eek:   ) by end of 2010. Don't know if I will do it, can't be done on salary alone,(earn a decent salary when I put the effort in and also easily achieved bonus) but I need to aim high to force myself to get somewhere near. The whole thing is very annnoying as meeting someone would mean double the income and half the expenses, but I can't rely on that. icon9.gif Anyway, you are most welcome to the house warming party:beer: :D

    Morning one and all.

Happy Mothers Day to any of you with kiddies.

Wow Sarah thats some goal, you go girl!!

I will soon be selling my house as I can't afford to buy my ex out and will be renting for a while and I intend to save for England to get a nice deposit to buy my own place too. At the moment its scary to think that once the house gone I will be debt free and able to save

Hi everyone! Sarahb - well done on being debt-free! I'm slowly but surely making a little bit of progress. Eveyr little bit really does helps as by cutting a load of surplus d/ds out of my outgoings, I've suddenly started finding that I have more money at the end of the month. Go figure, eh?!

Got a letter from my mortgage company last night when I got home telling me that my mortgage payments are going down by £201 a month in 3 weeks time  :j Such responsibility in actually having some money! The letter also said that the outstanding sum on the mortgage is some £1100 less than I thought it was too so it was all really good stuff. I love being able to see the numbers go down - bit mad to start looking forward to opening letters from my mortgage company. Never used to be like that!

Know what you mean Sarah on he splitting of bills and things too. I'm peeved with getting advice from smug-marrieds (SMs as I like to call 'em :p ) about how I sohud do this or hat or the next thing with money when if I was sharing my home with someone, I'd be about £900 a month better off! They have not got a clue what it's like to be on your own and running a home and taking the sole responsiblity for everything within those four walls. Now, admittedly I love living alone and having that responsibility, but it peeves me off hearing the SMs telling me I should save this, take a break here or there, buy this or that car when they are in a totally different situation.

Although as a friend of mine found out recently, when you split with someone, you suddenly find yourself half as well off as you think you are, so at least I'm not carrying that false illusion around with me :o
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

    Hi BB

Love the SM's tag - and how right you are!!!! Just stretching out the money to last the month is a real challenge, and I'm aware that I earn an OK salary and don't have children to provide for! The last thing I need is people 'advising' me what I should have, especially when they add 'by your age'

This tends to be people who don't know me that well though, fortunately my real friends are much more thoughtful
