Sarah - For what it's worth, I think it's the right thing. :A And I know you have thought long and hard about it. Just think of poor Mr B suffering, now that you won't be giving him extra £s every month.
Don't forget that you're already on the way to that lovely house of yours.
Welcome home TDQO - Hope that marathon flight wasn't too bad!
Today's going to be a day of two distinct halves. Went to a friend's Dad's funeral this morning, which turned out to be a real celebration when the friend announced "There are loads more of you that we expected, so we're stopping off at Firkin's for some extra buns". I'm sure his Dad would have been chuckling at that.
Tonight we are out to dinner - Thai - so I'm just off for a shower, and to try and tame my hair a bit. We are going with some friends who are really glam, so I am trying to move past the "dragged through hedge" look. Shoe Gal - I need more coaching!0 -
Hello - I've been reading this thread and it's fab! Its so great to find a bunch of girls who seem to understand exactly what I'm going through... Like most of you I'm in full time work but chronically in debt so seem to spend my entire life just trying to keep my head above water - which is tough when you're on your own and don't have "another half" to cheer you up and buy you a nice supper when you're feeling down. Luckily I have great mates (although they don't know the extent of my problem as I have never had the guts to tell anyone how absolutely PANTS I have been with money in the past).
My biggest problem is that I'm so in debt that although I'm keeping up with all repayments, I'm hardly making a dent in any of them....and (despite having a decent salary) I have hardly any money left over - even at the beginning of the month let alone the end! I can't quite ever see myself fixing this but I spent yesterday working out exactly what I owed and to whom. Was terrifying but at least I know where I am and can see how much (if at all!) the debt goes down each month. Got to start somewhere. I've also put anything I don't use/wear/want on ebay so hopefully that will bring in some extra cash. Would be grateful if someone could point me to any other useful "cash raisers". I work full time (often til quite late) so ideally anything I can do from home in the evening. Thank you v much!
Ho hum - at least I'm now trying to deal with it. Nights out are going to have to be very few and far between so I'm sure I'll be on here a lot reading all your shenanagins!
Thanks for letting me join in!

I would like to feel sorry for fat cat Mr B but to be fair, at 14.9% he was hardly feeling sorry for me.:D I am 0.1% on the way to my lovely M&S/Next decorated house:D Have just remembered that I have £300 in another account which I can add to house savings but I have a very expensive week coming up- need to get 2 presents and am going to 2 parties- so I will get through those first and see what is left.
Forgot to add in my excitement that dentist's bill was £500:eek: :eek:It will come out of my account at the end of the month, am not going to close that od just in case. Will cancel the huge one though, am working on the principle that if I only have a minimal safety net I will have to be very sensible. I hope to be technically solvent by Christmas, in the meantime I will have to envoke the tearful phonecall to parents, which will not be pleasant. (It will work but it is a v difficult thing, I don't like having to do it, I don't like taking their money, I don't like having to seem useless, I don't like that they will dip into their savings which should be theirs to bail out their incompetent adult daughter, I don't like that it makes them feel superior, although they never mention it, it hangs in the air and makes me feel useless and beholden and stupid and on and on.)
I got the free mascara with Glamour magazine today, can't remember who mentioned it but it doesn't look full size, was only £2 so still a bargain.I am still a bargain hunter:D

Hello londonfraggle and welcome:jFirst things first, you are in the right place. Hang on and I will make a proper reply:DPay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j0 -
Hi londonfraggle, am a slow typer so this might take a while:D Anyway, you are in the right place and this thread is choc full of brillant people with fab advice.
with regards to not wanting to tell your friends, I totally understand, this is the only place I admit it as well. I have a decent income and I am sure they think I am a lot better off that I am. You don't have to say anything and I bet a lot of what they have is on credit anyway.
I want an other half to buy supper too:D
As to you having little left over, I don'r know if a DMP or an IVA would be any use to you, I have never had anything to do with them so I do not understand the complexities if them, but a lot of people on here have them and give fantastic knowledgable advise. If you start your own thread fabby peeps will be on immediately to help you.
I also work very late sometimes so I know what that is like, it makes life very difficult sometimes. With regard to making extra money i will try to find some links for you:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1717603 (for making extra money)
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1730229 (for keeping on the right track)
Also quidco and other cashback sites for getting money back on spending
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/cashback-websites
Hope that helps for now please feel free to post here at any time, we are very knowledgable between us and a very friendly bunch. If you are struggling though, I definitely recommend starting your own thread, just write a short note and people will be on there straight away to help with making an SOA/cutting back.

Thank you Sarah! It's nice to find somewhere you can have a chat and be "honest" without worrying about what people think of you.
I've actually been sick with a tummy bug today which makes you feel a bit miz too....moan moan! At least watching big brother's launch has cheered me up - I could be as crazy as they all are to add to my problems!0 -

Would hate to be in there, but wouldn't mind winning £100,000. It would solve a lot of things:D

Have just hemmed half a curtain. Am SO proud of myself. :j :rotfl:(Honestly, this is relevant to DFW because it means I'm managing to replace the horrible patterned, greyed, wrong length curtains in the spare room for a grand total of £12.50 - thank you Wilkos.)
Now I just need to get the other curtain and a half done by the time my friend comes over on Saturday evening!
