E.on website - no information about actual charges

I just received a letter from E.on saying my Energy Saver 5 is going to end and I'm going to go onto the standard prices.

The website offers me a choice of options:

Track and Save ( tracks BG prices) - obviously rubbish
Go Green - ditto
Energy Saver 7 Dual Fuel (price cap) - ditto

This leaves

E.ON Energy Plan (comes with free lightbulbs worth about 50p)
Energy Discount v2
EnergyOnline Extra Saver v13

and they all have exactly the same charges!

It seems that you get 8% direct debit discount regardless, I take it that you get nothing extra on 'Energy Plan', and the Energy Discount v2 is 2% off (which I take it is what I was going to go onto).

So how much am I going to get off with 'EnergyOnline Extra Saver v13 '?

No idea.

It appears I get 11% off at the moment, plus the 8% for a total of 19% off.

Is 'Extra Saver v13' better or worse than what I get now? E.ON won't say - they won't tell me what discount I'll get. God knows why, if their computers can generate a bill online, they can tell me the discount too.

Instead

"The discounts on this product vary by product version and region and may be less than the EnergyOnline Extra Saver product that you're already on. If you'd like more information about the exact discounts on our products please call us on 0800 183 1377."

Waste of time.

It's called confusion marketing but I have to say E.on are undoubtedly the absolute masters of it.

There is something that smells of rotten fish about Eon as only they amongst all the main distributors fail to publish a list of all their available tariffs on the web - Bearing in mind that like all the providers, every action and non-action they take is designed to increase their margins, the lack of web tariffs must be giving them some sort of financial advantage at the expense of their customers

They do have their prices on their website but hide them. You have to click on 'quote' to get there, or log into your account and then look at switching tariffs. Why they can't have a link to a price list on their home page like the others, I don't know.

But, Magenta, even after that they still do not publish the composition of their discounts - they just print the total saving based on your sample consumption. As they have DFS-style prices up to 17.5% above the actual prices this makes comparing E-on prices impossible. The figure they disclose are meaningless.

You and your DFS ;). I'm sure you can get prices of tariffs if you click through more options - something about a more detailed quote, I think. But, yes, I think you're right about not being able to put in actual consumption. And the pricing. Whole set up puts me off e-on.

Nope, both detailed and quick quotes both yield the same useless summary.
  • Are the E.on reps on a tea break?

Perhaps they're sorting out their website?

    Hi thelawnet

You are absolutely right. Energy Online Extra Saver discounts are not listed on our website as percentages. This is because they vary by region.

I don't know why the discounts aren't listed as I believe it would be a good idea.

Thank you for this excellent feedback. This has been suggested before and passed to our website technicians to see if it can be done in the future. Can't make any promises though.

You can use the quote and switch tool on the website to see the total discount in money terms. Pop in your spend and choose More Details on the relevant tariff.

This may not be what you are looking for so give us a call if want to know the Energy Online percentage discount for your region.

Once your current arrangement ends you will automatically be put on the standard Energy Online product unless you tell us differently. This has a discount of 10 per cent, regardless of region, for dual fuel and payment by Direct Debit.

The Energy Discount (version 2) also has a 10 per cent discount for dual fuel and payment by Direct Debit. Again, regardless of region. This, though, is a fixed 12 month contract with a termination fee should you change supplier.

The Energy Plan has 8 per cent discount for dual fuel and paying by Direct Debit.

    Hope this helps.
