It wasn't an "offer". It was / is a genuine promotion.
It was published on MSE in a post more than six weeks ago:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1535105
IHG initially seemed to think it was fine for MSE members to make use of the FF link but have now changed their minds -- presumably, demand from this particular 'audience sector' is greater than had been anticipated.
Fair do's though: six weeks was a lo-oo-nng time for the F&F link to be open, and honoured, by IHG.
As to the "midnight promise": nothing on the IHG website link ever mentioned a close-out day or date, so no corporate promise was ever made (the Press Office statement about 'midnight' was only issued yesterday, and, it seems, in some haste.)
And as to withdrawing the offer, IHG always had the right to withdraw, restrict or modify it (or any other promotion) at any time.
Note to anyone thinking of turning up at a hotel with a booking form but no F&F voucher:
DON'T RISK IT
The Terms & Conditions of your booking specifically stated that you MUST download the voucher and you MUST print it out and present it at reception when arriving at the hotel.
Anyone who has already made a booking, but DOESN'T have the required voucher, please p.m. me: I'll happily email it to you.0 -
Thanks for the F&F link - I booked a hotel in the States for Oct and saved £100 against reservation I had on hold!Had to pre pay but with savings like that , not a problem
Looks like link has been taken down now- shame as I bet there will be empty hotel rooms across the globe-companies need to wake up to realise it is better to get 50% of price than nothing at all!
It's why I for one am hoping that IHG will think about offering a special MSE promotion: the spend-per-head level it has inadvertently attained here (inadvertently, because it was an IHG employee who was bright enough to mention it on MSE: no corporate approach was made to the forum) considerably exceeds the SPH achieved by groups like Travelodge as a result of their discount promotions.
You're absolutely right about the state of the industry: business-class hotels -- and IHG is firmly in that class -- are being hit, and will continue to be hit, by a downturn in traditional patronage as long as the UK recession bites.
As one with some knowledge of the industry, I can tell you it isn't filling bedrooms that bring the profits but filling the restaurant and the bar tills (and the room service revenue stream.)
So yes, you can discount -- heavily -- on the often ludicrous "rack rates" simply because if you ain't got the punters in the door, you haven't got the punters in anywhere else, either, so your prospects of weathering the current business downturn ain't too shiny.
C'mon, IHG. Give it another whirl!0 -
check out these rates they were half the price than the f&f a few weeks ago, we got a room for 42 instead of 89

Good tip -- link seems to have gone down though?? Perhaps IHG is revising various offers at the mo.0 -
UPDATE:
MSEr Triker reports that the IHG Friends & Family link is STILL VALID.
And yes. It is.
Anyone here still interested in this excellent deal, please see my post at #130 on the original Holiday Inn thread where I've put together the relevant booking details:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=20748575&posted=1#post20748575
Hope this helps.
* NB: without a crystal ball, I've no idea how long the link will remain live -- IHG has the right to close it at any time.0 -
Hi,
Sorry for anyone annoyed about this - it wasn't a "scam", IHG just decided to withdraw the link - I think they didn't quite realise what 3.5m MSErs could do.
If anyone has made a booking and needs a voucher, the link to it is: -
http://images3.ichotelsgroup.com/cq/etc/media_library/pdf/ihg/amer.Par.0002.File.tmp/Voucher.pdf
Just fill in it with my name (Kit Waites) and my hotel (Express Oxford). If anyone hasn't made a booking, as others have said there are loads of links to other people's online. I can't link to them for obvious reasons, but a quick search on Google should give you loads of possibilities!
Hope that helps.

Many thanks!! I've just booked for two nights in Paris - booked the Berlin one the other day just before it was withdrawn so thought I'd missed out on getting this one, but after seeing your post thought I'd get in quick & managed to book it OK. So thanks again!:T0 -
