Welcome all new people.
tmck I can't help with your question, I'm afraid. I know there are other shop owners on here, so maybe they will be able to help. It might be worth asking the question of Business Link or other start-up organisation, or maybe even your council. Let us know how you get on.
take the plunge Good luck with the wedding planning plans. Keep us posted on what you decide to do. There seem to be quite a few people on here involved with or wanting to be involved with weddings in some way or other.
Irishbird Sorry to hear about your hubby's work situation. Good luck with your self-employment. Sounds like a plan to work at what you know (sympathies about not liking it much, though) and also work towards something you want to do. What are your hubby's prospects for getting more work? Can he work self-employed, too? Please keep posting."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -
Yesterday spent at client's office all day. It was a fabulously sunny day (unlike today so far) and it was torture being in the office all day - the village is holding an oyster festival on Monday and there were lots of people outside planting flowers, putting up the marquee and painting - I envied them as I did the wages and ploughed through a pile of invoices. On the plus side, client was busy all day and so left me alone.
Today I have to finish off a web site and then get over to the shop to get a few hours' bookkeeping in before becoming a shop girl. If owner is back in time, I may have to revert to being a bookkeeper later in the day. Got some editing to fit in somewhere too.
I made little headway with my own accounts this week. It looks like I have a couple of clear days next week, so I shall chain myself to the desk and get on with them. Mrs Revenue, if you are reading this, I promise that's what I'll do, so pleeeeeease give me a break for a couple of days.
Working in shop all weekend - a bit of admin, but mainly being a shop girl. I'll do a bit of office work in the evenings if I can stay awake - but no promises there!"Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"

The women meeting thing is with Birmingham chamber of commerce. You would have to book it with them - £50 plus VAT for non-members though:eek: It is on 22 May from 11.30-2.30pm at the Radisson SAS hotel in Birmingham (really handy for me as there is a bus stop right outside:rotfl:) It is called Women...Who...
Depending on how long your business has been set up you could perhaps apply to Birmingham chamber as they have a membership package for start up businesses.
Oh and check your email - the code from HMRC came through :j The letter asked me if I want to pay tax by DD:eek: Well I had better go and finish the forms and send them off then tackle the blasted council again who still haven't sent me the self employment form, how long does it take for god's sake:mad:0 -
Wooo another big job to last me til the end of next week
Its sunny outside thouDamn builders are still hammering
Must get some work done today, however I also have to tidy the kitchen and bake cookies0 -
Star bake your cookies on Saturday:D
Sammy I have emailed you the details about the Women Who Lunch meetings with Birmingham Chamber of Commerce. I know that being a member of Birmingham you can go to Solihull events too but am not sure about H&W ones:rolleyes:
My WTC form has gone in eh post :j Tried to get a folder from the bank to keep my statements in but was told they had run out and to try another branch - my answer was, order some in then please:D
My mate has turned into bridezilla and its horrendous - at least with her I can be brutally honest so I told her off today especially as she was supposed to have come round yesterday and never bothered - even more annoying was that I had had to cancel a visit from another friend and I wanted to spend some quality time with that particular person:mad: I also wish she wouldnt lie about costs either - its not big and its not clever. Mind you I think she is a bit disgusted when I told her that I had put the beetroot back in the jar and gave me a lecture on being tight its not tight its just called not being wasteful:rolleyes:0 -
Thank goodness for a long weekend! really looking forward to doing some reading and relaxing. Still have some bits and peices of work to do but won't take too long.
Thanks for the advice on insurance Horace. Will look into it. Considering I write insurance articles every day i should be an expert! I wasn't being serious about the swine flu. Just commenting on having something in the media can make people think they have it. I was trying my hand at a little irony...
I have asked hubbie for a sit down to chat about my self employed future. I have offerred to give up some of my luxuries, do more housework, cook nicer meals and be a generally nicer person if he will consider the options with me. We make entirely joint decisions in our house so if he and the kids are happy then I might just hand in my notice. But I may have to compromise and wait a while. We'll see.
Have a great weekend everyone!0 -
Have made cookies.. had to make them today H as they are for my OH as its our anniversary today. Am planning on working this evening, Sat pm, Sun and monday so its fine.
Just had a visit from 2 nice fireman to fit us some smoke alarms, one of whom was very nice
Suppose I'd better try and do some work before OH comes home.

Happy anniversary - Star.
I am sick of all this pig flu nonsense - it will just be a flash in the pan like bird flu last year:rolleyes: Anyway, I have the sniffles and a permanently dry throat (not sore) and I know the cause - tree pollen, no point in anti histamines either so will just have to get used to it.
Megs - Hope your OH agrees with you becoming self employed, I can't believe that I am working for myself its kinda strange being my own boss anyway if there is any bossing around to be done I like to do it rather than me being bossed around:rotfl:
I havent done much today - will be working tomorrow instead and maybe even on Monday:D0
