I'd agree that if the cards have gone, it is probably worth taking in more. If they hadn't gone, that would be more of a negative. I remember once someone saying that for a marketing mailshot, about 5% response was good (I might be wrong, but that was the figure that stuck in my head), so if you've left out 100 cards, maybe one call would be all you might expect? And you do have to give people time to think about it.

Thanks twyllwyd for your wise words. Which reminds me that I need to sort out a load of business cards for the networking event I am going to on Tuesday.

    The importance of eating:

I always never seem to remember to eat properly when I'm working. You'd think I would, as its an effective form of procrastination. However normally I just snack and end up not feeling so well. So I got up and made myself some tasty roasted veg and hummous (sorry all meat eaters but I'm a veggie) ... and now I feel much better. Whether I can turn it into enthusiam for working I'm not so sure...

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend

  • Morning All!

    I know its early

Phoniex (cant spell!) Trading is a company that sells loooovely cards. From what I can understand so far is that you are a self employed trader and you have to buy the brochures and buy the cards at a reduced rate and then sell them on. If I'm wrong, please correct me. (I still havent posted the request for information pack yet!)

Anyway, must catch up on the rest of the threads I'm [STRIKE]stalking[/STRIKE] following! :D

    Have a good day all!

Yes, that's the idea - I signed up with them a few years ago but quickly discovered that it didn't work for me. There's probably a thread on them in the up your income board. From my experience, what I would say about any of these kind of companies is do your homework - look at the start up costs, look at postage and packing, etc etc and be realistic about whether you are going to put a decent amount of effort into selling and whether you are prepared to ask family & friends to buy from you. If you go into it half-heartedly, the start up costs mean you will lose money overall.

Hello everyone. I have had the last two days off. After finally reaching my deadline on Friday I was whacked. I am hoping to do two or three hours today and get some research in the bag for my articles this week.
Spoke to hubbie regards my self employment. He is very fearful of not having a regular income as he is also self employed. His suggestion is that I ask at work if i can do less hours (I doubt this will be meet with enthusiasm from my employers as i already cannot complete all the work given to me in my current hours)or find another job with fewer hours and at least 2 days off a week so i can build up the writing from there. A full day or two would be ideal as at the moment i am only able to do two hours a day.
For now, given our debt situation I am happy to try this approach. I am currently only on around £7 an hour so i am looking to ask at our local Tesco for another job. I don't really care what i do and my current wage isn't exactly hard to match. Has anyone esle worked for tesco before? I am thinking of around 20 hours a week maybe spread over 3-4 days/nights/evenings/early mornings.
Tesco seem liken a good option as they have really flexible hours and as i am a good morning person I would be happy to do a 6am start. Anyway it is something to look into. Can't say i am not disappointed but we are only just keeping our heads above water at the moment so not having a guaranteed income might be a little premature.
