Hello everyone
Finally plucked up the courage to post...I too am self employed and many a time find myself looking for recipes on the internet rather than actually doing any work!! I am finding it very hard to concentrate at the moment - seems silly because if ever there was a time to concentrate it should be now. I've racked up a pile of debts after investing in a "sure win" business. As you might have guessed there is no such thing....dohh!!
I need a good kick up the backside to get things moving. I am a recruiter and sometimes constantly cold calling companies can be soul destroying. Anyhow I have £69,000 odd pounds of debt at the moment - much of it on credit cards - so I had better get a move on.Personal Debt LBM 02/04/09 is £69,363.26: £35,161.01 Credit cards(Virgin12492, Others 22669)£15,099.25 Loan £18743.00 Car Loan Business Debt is £72,665.00: £6,765 Overdraft £7,300 Company Credit Card £1,600 Legal £2000 Corp Tax £55,000 Investor DFW Nerd 1167"Proud to be dealing with my debts" Long Hauler #1590 -
Sending a virtual kick your way Chandler :rotfl:
I managed to get myself more motivated with cooking and the such with help from the OS board, so I am hoping this thread will help me get motivated with my business' in the same way. It is so nice reading about other people in the same situation as you & I have already changed things a little this week since I discovered this thread. So keep up this thread and keep posting.0 -

Afternoon everyone!
Beautiful sunny day here and spirits are good amongst my customers, I've had a cracking morning and some new products have arrived that I'm really pleased with as it was a bit of a gamble taking them on, but thankfully I have went with a small quantity to test the water so to speak. I had a lovely sales rep bring me an ice lolly as he said it was too nice a day to not have one!
Chandler, welcome. This site has given me the kick up the backside I needed to look at the state of my business and I have kept a note of everyone I owed when I first started posting here and I update it everytime I pay something. it is such a good feeling when you see the total coming down. It really keeps you motivated to do more!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

Hi Chandler
You can find the OS (Old Style) board here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=33
it's great for tips on how to save money with things like groceries, cleaning, washing etc well worth a look0 -
Thanks for the tip TCM - added a signature detailing my woes....:( but I think its better out in the open. As you suggest I will update it as I pay things off. Looks like a long hard slog...but I am sure wit ha little help I can make it.
Purpleroses - many thanks for the link.
Must say it's really very nice to be here!! :jPersonal Debt LBM 02/04/09 is £69,363.26: £35,161.01 Credit cards(Virgin12492, Others 22669)£15,099.25 Loan £18743.00 Car Loan Business Debt is £72,665.00: £6,765 Overdraft £7,300 Company Credit Card £1,600 Legal £2000 Corp Tax £55,000 Investor DFW Nerd 1167"Proud to be dealing with my debts" Long Hauler #1590 -
I am back from my meeting - I arrived early but did a bit of networking on the way as I ventured into a tailors and asked how much they charge to make suits unfortunately they don't make ladies suits:rolleyes: I picked up the April edition of the Chamberlink magazine and there is my second free ad in pride of place in the middle of the shop window section at the back of the mag:j
I have been catching up with things and had a chat on the phone with the WTC people who have said that I will be eligible for £48 a week WTC but if I had had kids then I would get more as I pointed out at my meeting today, I have never been one for having kids to improve my benefits:rolleyes:
Well I picked up yet another leaflet whilst I was in the Chamber today about a free online service for businesses and entrepreneurs. The leaflet states that the service is aimed at start ups, entrepreneurs and businesses looking to the next stage of growth and it is a free online impartial service available 24hrs a day. The service has been set up by the Research & Enterprise Office at the University of Essex. The service is called Venture Navigator and can be found at https://www.venturenavigator.co.uk
It might be beneficial to us and I for one will be registering (registration is also free) to see what sort of advice I can get because I am not one to turn down free advice.:D0 -
Hey everyone. Had a nice lie in this morning (I managed to trip in the hallway last nite and fall forward, rather hard, landing boob first on the corner of a chest of drawers!! - it hurts.. so i thought a little tlc was in order) and messed around for most of the morning, only to remember I had promised an agency a sample translation back by today. Wasnt the most cheerful thing either, was a news article about the shooting in Germany. Then I get another email from an agency I emailed a week ago about a job they had posted on the language site im on, hadnt heard from them so I thought they'd given the job to another translator. They want me to do a test, and of course they'd like it back today or tomorrow! And I have friends coming round for dinner at 7, and I was planning on doing housework, starting cooking and making myself presentable this afternoon. Oh well dinner wont be ready straight away when they get here and the dessert I wanted to make will have to go out the window and they can have icecream from the freezer instead.
On the business front today Ive spent £17 - the free trial period on my pc dictionary ran out - its so much quicker to type the word in rather than look it up.. my actual dictionary is about as thick as the size of my handspan!!
That Venture Navigator thing looks interesting Horace, but I am biased as I went to the University of Essex and i am biased! Id be interested in who they have manning it thou.. hope not current students!!
I must look into the Chamber of Commerce here, try and get me some direct clients rather than just agencies.

Damn! My local chamber of commerce offers a translation service!! So much for me contacting the local members to offer my services if the are already aware of the CC's service! Wonder if they will let me in on their panel!!0
