Check your PMs Ally - I sent you one yesterday about this band but as they are a brummie band and I am on the ground so to speak a meeting is being arranged between me and them with a view to me being their publicist manager:eek: I already work with a couple of sound engineers who also run an entertainment agency but this band is trying to break into the big time and although I have my PA skills and I am good at talking to people I guess I am lacking in a bit of confidence myself. It would be a brilliant opportunity and I actually quite like their music - I can't believe that they havent been signed up despite having rave reviews.

Can I be cheeky and ask how much you charge and which sort of record labels work with rock bands? It is quite exciting and is in a totally new direction but I have a feeling that it could lead to bigger things - its also another string in my bow. How do you sort out your contracts too? All these questions..sorry if I sound thick but its a bit wierd for me. I grew up in the music industry as my parents managed a band and I came into contact with the likes of Slade and Led Zeppelin etc but it is different when you have to promote someone and things have changed since the 70's.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    H

Hi Jp- I use paypal, it's free to use on your site, you just pay a percentage when someone pays you. No idea how it works as I didn't set it up!
Horace - band management now ?! Cool!!!! Good luck :-)
  • Morning everyone,
Horace your a woman of many talents I must say and new prospecus on the horizon with the band eh?? How exciting -remember me for alll their travel arrangements heheheh...

And yes you did see me on 4N I joined that day after reading your recommendation- only the free online for now though but I must say it does look good- I haven't been to BNI but although it does get good reviews from peeps there I cant imagine me having to go everyweek and I don't have that many contacts at the moment to pass round anyway & don't facny being scowled up on!

Horace do you organise corporate Incentives abroad? I met someone in Events a long while ago that also branched in to Incentives I helped them with a trip for 10people to NY. I know that incentives are probably in less demand than before but there are a lot of companies that do it and if your in Corporate events you already have a base - just a thought.

JP- how mad is that living near your parents- it is a small world!! When your at the Rebok craft fair may pop and say hello - every year we say we're going to visit - it's a big one isn't it!

Well got much to do so best get on!

If you want PM me perhaps we can help - we (BB & I) help small businesses folk with IT stuff including websites. We hate how often people can get ripped off cos they don't have someone on their side that knows about this stuff.

  • Morning Everyone..

Just a quick post to help those people looking at adding shopping carts to their websites.

Paypal have a system called 'Buy Now' buttons - I've added the link below. All you would need to do is register for a paypal account and then they will give you some 'code' to add to your product description.

This code will then create a 'buy now' button on your web page and when the customer clicks it they will be asked for their details and payment.

    https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_singleitem-intro-outside

If you don't have lots of products then this is probably the simplest of options.

    Hope it helps..

    Enjoy your day everyone.

    Morning all.

Travellady - I hadnt even thought of going down the corporate incentives route..its a jolly good idea though.

The 4N forum is useful and the folks are jolly nice - BNI is to be avoided like the plague especially as they are so insular with only one type of business so you won't get to meet other planners, holistic therapists etc whereas 4N is fun and there is no pressure to make referrals and there is no pressure to attend breakfast meetings either.

This band thing is quite a scary prospect to be honest and I have tried putting them off to no avail, I have even phoned my contact at the company I have links with for their help and advice - their receptionist thought it was funny when I told her, I am awaiting a call back..so we will have to wait and see what happens with the project. I have no doubt that I can do the job but I don't want to work with a band 24/7 which is what I imagine it to be like - ally bally will be able to tell me (ally, please check your private messages).

Best drink up my coffee - I had a lie in this morning until 9.15:j, I have made some calls, booked an appointment at the doctor where I will be seen by students first which should be fun. I also need to go to the sorting office to pick up a parcel - it might be snow:cool: I need to go to the bank and go and buy a hamper from wilkinsons.

Had a lie in myself this morning until 8.30am. Having my usual end of month crisis - will I meet my deadlines and now I feel a bit rough with a headache and runny nose....
To make matters worse today is thre MILs birthday and she is coming over from about 3pm until after dinner. Have to go to supermarket with the kids, buy food and a cake, cook something extravagant and clean the house and wrap her presents. I love her to bits but feeling a bit stressed today.

Been thinking more and more about this netwroking idea and think I willl attend a "ladies who latte" meeting at a local hotel. It is completely free, aimed at women and not structured at all. Just a go and mingle type of thing. it feels a bit less scary.
Although I am already quite busy it would be good to have a few other strings to my bow and maybe be able to pick and choose jobs a little more.

Horace you really seem to do loads. I wonder how you find the time. Would you describe yourself as "profitable". I am not asking what you earn - nothing more bourgeious than that :) lol - but what I mean is with all the running around you do, do you find you make enough to cover all those hours not working in the usual sense. I worry that if I spend a morning at a meeting or whatever i am losing valuable time i could be working.

Megs - I make absolutely zero at the moment - all the networking is to gain potential customers, I always doing something as I cannot seem to sit still - I also work long into the night and can still be working on something at midnight. The wedding business is quiet for me as is the corporate side of things but that is going to pick up and then I have this publicist/manager thing in the pipeline with a rock band which shall be great fun.

I am off to play iwth some snow and make a call to Business Venture.
