I have a dog. She's a bit like Moneymabel's though and wouldn't be much of a deterrent. She's also a complete tart and if the burglars invited her into their car she would jump in without a backward glance. I never leave her in the mobile home when I'm not there. Over the last two summers there have been several unexplained field and hedge fires and I figured that a mobile home would be quite an attractive proposition for anyone who likes watching things go up in flames and so I couldn't rest easy knowing my mutt was locked inside. I also generally don't leave her in my office on her own as one of the little gits from across the road (who broke in, while I was there, doh, and tried to break into the electricity meter [no, they were not caught either]) are, so I'm told, into some sort of satanic ritual which involves woods at midnight, cats and dogs. _pale_ So, dog and laptop now go with me everywhere when possible."Green pastures are before me,

wordsmith - I'm not sure exactly when but it looks like it will be fairly soon. No doubt the letters will start arriving in the post. The dvla and the insurance companies are going to be sharing info and woprkign out who isn't paying for their insurance. If your car is off the road then getting a SORN will mena you are not liable.
You have been in the writing mood today Wordsmith! Some really interesting posts.
Thanks to everyone who congratualted me on my promotion. Not starting until July but today at work I felt so much more positive and worked much harder. If only managers realised that all it takes is a little bit of praise and recognition and productivity would soar.
My husband is concerned that I will let work start to take over and forget tha writing is what I want to do. But I promise that as soon as our debts are paid off and I have a little in the bank to tide me over I will quit quite happily and go it alone without a second thought.
Got two payments in the bank today £150 and £130. Got another due for £145 which I have been waiting for for 5 weeks!! My client claims she is setting up a new office and is having internet issues. But she could just pop down to the bank rather than doing it online.
How long is too long to wait for an invoice to be paid? I have sent 2 reminders and both times she has apologised and said she will get on to it asap. I am not doing any work for her at the moment but she is a regular client and will have some stuff for me in the future. I don't want to cause a breakdown in the relationship - but it feels a bit like she is taking the mick...0 -
Congratulations nzmegs!! That's great news.
Haven't posted for a while but always keep up with the thread, love hearing how everyone's doing. I have taken on a second cleaning job which has eased the pressure slightly and still leaves me 3 weekdays to concentrate on my other business, hard work but helps pays the bills.
Enjoy the sunshine!0 -
Well done on the 2nd job Sunshine.
Just to say folks I won't be around much tomorrow as I am going to a networking event at a local stately home (lunch is included). I have wangled an invitation for my mate too but I hope she behaves - she turned round and said that if she is bored then we shall have to leave (she is driving me there), guess I will have to take plenty of cash in case I have to call a taxi.
Both of us had a wasted evening as we had been invited to a not so local cricket club to discuss organisational bits for a charity cricket match which is due to take place on 13 July - only the guy who called the meeting never bothered turning up or telling anyone that the meeting was cancelled:mad: Still it has been decided that he can stick his cricket match where the sun don't shine because there isnt enough time to organise the event properly:rolleyes:0 -
Hi all, just finished catching up. not been on much last few days just been so busy which is good, am not complaining but these ealy mornings and late nights are exhausting!

Me again - asking for some serious advice. I have a massive dilemma! As already explained I have been offered a promotion at work - great... but yesterday I was asked to attend an interview at tescos. This job would mean working Sat and Sun mornings (until 10am) but I would have two full days off in the week when the kifds are at school, leaving me plenty of time of writing.
Then today I was asked to attend an interview for a receptionist position for the NHS. Not great pay but only 4 days a week leaving one full day plus the weekends.
My current job is 5 mornings a week and now has the prospect of better money and a more interesting and challenging role, plus it is close to home( i can walk) and I like the people.
Do I attend these interviews? How do I make this diecsiion. If I hadn't been offered the promotion I would have gladly taken either of the other jobs, but the promotion sort of changes everything.
I really need some advice. I can't get he pros and cons sorted in my head.0 -
Megs, well done on getting 2 interviews!!!!! Personally, I think you should attend both interviews - you're not committing yourself to taking either job just yet. You may find at the interviews that the job is different than what you were expecting or you get a bad feeling about the place which will make the decision easier for you. I think it would also, if you are offered both or either, give you more of a bargaining power with your current boss - maybe be able to get more of what you want?
As an employer, if I'm interviewing and someone really stands out, I would tend to try and offer a better package for them, maybe better hours or holidays or flexitime - I have my angel who works for me on a Saturday and if she said she needed less hours or extra time off I would not hesitate as she is worth her weight in gold. I have had other muppets (and statues!) work for me and it makes me appreciate those who work hard.
Up to about a year ago, I would have said that public sector jobs (schools, NHS, government etc) would be a more secure job but I don't think anything is secure anymore.
Go for the interviews - then make a decision based on that rather than the "what if" - don't be putting pressure on yourself. You've done really well with your new promotion and to get 2 interviews you should be proud, let us know how you get on
Hope that provides a bit of encouragement!

Your'e a star TCM thanks very much. I have emailed the reception job to get more details and will base my descision on the outcome. It may be the wrong hours as they haven't said.
Sometimes it is better the devil you know and that is the way I am veering. My reasoning being that I should give the promotion a go and why jump at the first postion offered to me just because I have been looking for a long time.
At least I know where I am. I currently work for a new home builder and we can see that the industry is improving and a vibrant and exciting time might be just round the corner.
MY MIL and my friends have all said stay where I am and keep looking until the perfect job comes along. I think it is a sensible way to think.
Anyway been too distracted to write today so got some catching up to do.
Hope everyone else is well and getting on with their work. Nearly home time!!0 -
Megs, you are the only one who can decide what route to take and go with what you feel is right for you personally, your family life and your other commitments. Even if in 20 years time, you feel it was the wrong decision, you made it for the right reasons! I made a decision to leave a job I had in a school for 15 years - due to the boss and his "assistant" who was a nasty piece of work - and it is something I regretted for a long time as the "assistant" (translated as his bit on the side) was sacked for being a bully 2 months after I left. I loved the job I went to after that but things change. However, had I not left I would not now have my own business and be my own boss. It happens for a reason. The money worries are awful but the job satisfaction is alot more!
I really think you should give yourself a huge pat on the back for being offered the interviews and chill out and see what comes of them.
Open a bottle of something cold and fizzy that rhymes with mampagne! Or im my case, the cheap plonk version from Tesco!

I'm leaping in a bit late, Megs, but I agree with TCM and would definitely go for the other interviews (and well done for getting two!). You'll have a much better feel for things once you've found out all you can and if you get offered either or both you can draw up for and against lists. Keep your main aim in mind, which is working towards writing full time and then see which would further this aim the best. And if you decide on one of the other jobs, write your resignation letter and see how that makes you feel. Good luck! How exciting!"Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0
