Le Creuset are not ordinary casseroles, they are mouth blown low carbon cast iron casseroles, which need to be slowly warmed, but not by ordinary warmth, gently coddle on a wood fuelled Aga, but not with ordinary wood, it should be the finest hardwood taken from non sustainable south american rain forests.

    Taxi for Penrhyn.

That's not just cooking that's LE CREUSET cooking! LOL

    Thanks for that Penrhyn. PMSL

My Gas oven has a slow cook way of using it on the dial for gas marks. I think it could be cheaper to run than a slow cooker as gas is cheaper than electricity to use, does any one think this could be right?.

Sadly we don't have mains gas, and filling up our gas tank costs an absolute fortune, for us electricity is def cheaper, though we do seem to have more things that run on gas!

When my last slo-cooker packed up I waited 6-8 months before I replaced it and I did so because I found an all singing all dancing model with on board computer in a car boot for £4. A bit of a no brainer really. LOL What that thing can do is no-ones business. It even beeps at me to tell me to add light cook items 2 hours before the end of cooking. If only I could get it to pick the kidz up from school:rolleyes: LOL

TBH it does nothing that I cannot do on the hob, in the micro or in the oven (which has slo-cook facitilty) which is why I didn't replace it straight away but I feel much happier leaving it on unatended that I would leaving the hob even though they are both leccy.

I do cart it across country and use it a lot at the coast where we have tanked gas (and a gas cooker:confused: ) which is really expensive and there is nothing nicer than coming home to a heartwarming stew and dumplings after a bracing walk along a windswept deserted beach in the middle of November.

Hi, Interesting post. I thought I would ask your opinions on pressure cookers and does anyone know if they are included in Delias' don't bother list.
I have recently just purchased my pressure cooker andwished I had done years ago. The meat is so much more flavoured and more tender and the veg retains more of its goodness. Does anyone know any good recipes in the pressure cooker? I would appreciate any. Thanks

There is also this brilliant forum for pressure cookers.......

If I remember rightly (book is at home, I am at work) Delia isn't a fan of pressure cookers either. Her reason was that her cats got a fright when it hissed. I kid you not...

She also wrote salad spinners off as a waste of house space appealling to the masses to use clothes or kitchen roll. Salad spinners were on Jamie Oliver's list of "must have kitchen equipment" - and he said to get a cheap one as the dear ones are just as likely to go kaput after a bit of wear and tear.

I must have a closer look at their two lists tonight and see what other differences there are.

Nobody commented on Jamie being the proud owner of a Wally Trolley...I was impressed, but then it doesn't take much to impress me.

I remember that as well. I have to say that much as I would like a salad spinner for when I buy non washed spinach I wouldn't use it very often, and they do take up loads of space. I certainly wouldn't put them on the list of essentials for most people.
  • I love my salad spinner,it's magic :)

Delia probably has plenty of time to stand around in the kitchen cooking all day therefore doesnt need a slow cooker. She also has got plenty of money so doesnt have to think about the gas bill or cooking cheap cuts of meat.
