Hello everyone
I spotted something devestating on page 38 of Delia Smith's How to Cook, Book Three. In it she states...and I quote:
"...things that take up precious space but are not really needed are as follows. A slow cooker...":eek::eek:
I can't believe she doesn't think they are useful gadgets!
To cheer myself up I turned to Jamie Oliver's book, jamie's kitchen. The job was a good one as on page 15 there is a full page full colour photograph of Jamie himself with a fake leopardskin Chic Shopper!!! Would scan it and post a link to it but I suppose that would be against copyright rules (don't want to get MSE.com into trouble on his 3rd birthday).

I just use a Big Saucepan so she may mean thats more important.0

No...she has written some pages on what to buy and what not to bother with. Slow Cooker is definitely in the "don't bother with" list....0

Thats because a saucepan or ovenproof dish is more up the list.
Ive never felt the need for a slow cooker, a saucepan is more
than adequate and can also be used for boiling stuff.
So it has a multipurpose thus = more important.0 -
I must have a different edition of the book to you.0

To be fair a slow cooker is no different to leaving a saucepan on a very low hob!0

After reading the enthusiasm for slow cookers on this forum I invested in one. What a waste of money. The previous poster states that using a slow cooker is no different than leaving a saucepan on a very low hob. I could not agree more. Delia Smith is quite right not to rate them.0

So you would leave a pan of food cooking on the hob all day unattended? I think not!"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

It is that what you do, good or bad,
will come back to you three times as strong!

You haven't tried Curry Queen's roast chicken in the SC. I am a recent convert and wish that I used it years ago. Try another few recipes and see how you go. I love it as well as it doesn't make my kitchen hotter while cooking. With the oven & hot plates on it's like a little furnace in there. I can cook eggs on the bench tops.
Slight exaggeration (sp) there.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0
