Thanks for the reply mrscmr. I guess I was more surprised than confused. I read your diary from start to finish yesterday and I had assumed you had little or no equity in your house as you had been through such a rollercoaster of emotions trying to become debt free.
I am in a similar situation - 2 mortgages and too many CC's- and if I had that much equity in my house I would be down to the estate agents like a shot! I hope it all works out.0 -
thanks howstupid... we have over 200k in house... and try as we might to get the bank to allow us to remortgage they wont... cos we dont tick all the boxes.. i would rather not sell the uk house and just rent it out but it does deal with the problem! just needed to unlock the cash! sad though cos i love my house
wishing u the best with ur debt journey... i know its hard and makes u sad... but one day it will be gone! xxHighest Debt £581,000 Nov 08 and now owe nothing! yes really! I have learnt my lesson the hard way!

If it completes :j. If not we will work out Plan B and you can rent it out.
When we first relocated, we put ours on (to buy in relocated area) and sold 1st day for a little under asking. 28 day competion and cash buyer.....then he played silly b*** ers the day before completion so we told him to stick it.
We then rented her out and the rent went towards rent in new location...all worked out for the best in the end and we paid down a hefty sum of debt over the following 4 years instead. I sometimes wonder how things would have panned out if we had sold and wiped the debt with the equity 5 years back.
Anyway, doesn't matter now as we I will be living in her again in 10 days time......and maybe MF in 2 years too if we carry on our DFW lifestyle...not as hardcore as before but essence of.:cool:0 -

Hi mrscmr
Good luck selling your house, I know you don't really want to but if it's sorts out the debt it's worth it and will save the ongoing stress.
We are in the process of Remortgaging, we want to borrow an extra £41k to pay off our credit cards, we had our house valued by the mortgage company and they valued it at £15k less than we thought it was worth so that has messed things up, now we are being told that when they did a credit check there is a different of about a few thousand, so we have just sent off for our Credit Reports from Experian and Equifax so that our FA has them (hopefully) by the end of next week when they come back with a decision after it's been to the Underwriters again.
Am a bit p'd off really, one because about £12/13k of the debt in OH name is his mum's, he lent her £9k from his card about 2.5 years ago as she said she would pay it back within a few months and here we are no further forward, if it wasn't for that money we would have no problems but I have £21k debt and OH has some that is his so we just want to remortgage to pay them debts off but it doesn't look to be going our way at the moment.
In total we want to borrow £161k our house was valued at £235k, we said we thought it was worth £250k so was surprised that they say it is only £235k (we bought it for £229.950 will be 5 years ago on 17th June, we are not sure what is going on with the difference in what we say we owe and what is coming back from the Credit checks they are doing, the only thing we can think of is that one of the cards I paid off back in April is not showing up as paid off yet which is why our FA wants our Credit Report so he can have an answer if they come back and say what the extra few thousand is.
Just want to know whether they will lend us the money.Sealed Pot Challenge #0160
