The end was nothing special - she did meet up with her mum and dad separately but they sent her away again and she went back to the care home. One of the girls in the care home seemed to being sexually abused and the other workers were considering reporting to the police but were unsure of evidence - they in turn were (or almost) sacked... Scary.

Put this way - I was never in care - but I looked like that little girl when I was little, and my dad liked to use a belt too - struggled to sleep after watching that.... I made a judgment call even as a kid that Care wouldn't necessarily be better than abuse at home - and to be honest I think I was right sad tho that is....

I looked at some of the adoption and fostering sites after the programme but I think I have a responsibility to make sure we have well and truly broken the cycle with our own kids and given them a positive childhood before I consider complicating things.... so it is unlikely that we would go down that route either...

Great news about the car MrsM! I was so touched by what you did for that poor family. I was reading a book by Deepak Chopra and he reckons that by giving money (or love or anything really it promotes its flow back to us. So hopefully that will happen for you, you deserve it!

Thats a nice thought but I never buy into that. The Christian preachers on sky are saying the same thing all the time... plough in your harvest... donate to us and you will reap your financial abundance blah blah...

Can't believe people get hooked into this.

Good for anyone that does any nice thing for another human being, but it's a fallacy I think, to ever think the act in itself will do any more good for the individual completing the action than calm peace of mind / joy of helping someone, I think.

    Anyone think otherwise? ! ?? =)

It always reminds me a bit of the episode in 'Friends' where Phoebe (I think) struggles to find a truly selfless act - because most things can be seen as making us feel better about ourselves...

The bible says give and it will be given to you. I believe it does work - altho I find it works more with things and acts of kindness rather than money....

What a wonderful generous thing you did. Hopefully in the future she will be in better circumstances herself and she will remember what you did and will be able to do the same for someone else.

Just thought I had better point out that I wasn't referring to YOU with this comment (more myself actually!). I think what you did was a lovely gesture, and you may have made a huge difference to that young lady - at times it's lovely to think that someone cares, even if we don't actually know the person....
