OH isn't going to die anytime soon!

UK mortgages require you to have sufficient life insurance to clear them should you die.

M2M - sorry but Life Assurance isn't compulsory. It's a damned good idea and should be but isn't.

MRSMCR - sensible thing is to dig out every policy the two of you have. Also have any policies lapsed (or be about to) with OH's business closing? Check your mortage as well, you may have bought it with the mortgage (it's very expensive that way usually and a possible saving in the future).

You may find you have cover in weird places if you're worried about cost such as credit cards or AA / RAC insurance. If you've an endowment with the house that will include SOME if not all of the value of the mortgage.

    Hope that helps a bit.

..... everyone at the kids school secretly hates me and thinks im odd.

Aaah see everyone at my kids school knows I'm odd. Thats why when they all emerged onto the playground to drop off their little darlings I was laid in the bark chip under the climbing frame. Five minutes later I was observed wandering around the payground with incredibly curly windblown hair liberally strew with bark chip wearing a carrier bag on one hand with a dead mouse inside.

The sign of a good mum is one who turns up to school with happy children. Who cares whether you're still wearing your pajamas. I mean really unless you get up three hours before your offspring to put on your war paint, straighten your hair and do whatever it is that they seen to do to look like they've just walked off a Vogue cover shoot how do they spend any quality time with their children in the morning.

I'd far rather arrive at school looking rather dishevelled with happy children and a fab excuse - incidently our best to date was apologising for being 5 minutes later as we were blow drying a chicken - we have since learnt that even 7am is too late on a school morning to flea shampoo and blow dry a very large chicken.

No ones life is perfect. We all lurch from catastrophe to catastrophe. No one at school hates you. They're all too busy wondering why no ones talking to them.

  • Hi Mrs cmr,

Stop beating yourself up. I am sure you are a great mum. Just ignore them all. As long as your kids are smiling as Moo2moo said you will be fine.

Moo2moo - Love the stories, they made me laugh. And I needed cheering up with my bad back giving me lots of pain. We all do stupid stuff in the past. When we look back we always laugh.

    Take care

blow drying a chicken... i must use that one!

i nearly smiled after reading above.

kissjenn... need to sort my paperwork ... off loaded onto OH last night my latest stories and night worries ... he thinks im over reacting but surely im being practical?

@moomoo and money fritter - thank you! mum at school can be really cruel - there is one in particular which i have to deal with and its wearying. i hate these playground clicks and if i do talk to someone and see another mum on their own i do my best to include them. but i get all self conscious and think no one is gonna talk to me - i would rather stand on my own some days.

    Hi,

I think its only prudent to ensure that both you and OH have basic Life Assurance. You have 3 dependent children and while it's highly unlikely that either of you will die before they're adults it does happen or there wouldn't be a multi billion pound industry selling the stuff.

Term Assurance is cheap if you're in good health. You can get quotes from the web and buy thro Quidco if you find the right deal. I got about £200k from Scottish Widows for £23 pm so not too bad. If you can afford it, make sure you're both covered as he'll need to buy in help for the children to allow him to work. If it was a toss up between contents and life cover, personally I'd take life. You must have building insurance, you can't svae on that one.

Lastly, think about joint insurance cover very carefully. You don't want last survivor, it doesn't pay out until you've both died and consequently would appear to be much cheaper.

    morning peeps

well had a long drive in car this morning on an errand... had time to think thanks to motorways and road works.

thinking to self several things...things like that i am feeling 100% better emotionally since sunday, thinking how the human spirirt is a funny old individual - like you can be at your lowest point and thinking everything sucks and then one tiny glimmer of some hope, or a new idea, or just a small everyday good thing might happen.. and ur little spirit gathers itself and lifts to give u a renew batch of vigour. i guess its that inner hope thing that makes us as human beings carry on?

if you look at people you read about in the paper - people who have lost loved ones, perhaps lost a child, how do they find the strength to carry on? look at people who have problems like good old kerry katona [poor poor girl] whose life is up and down and up and down like a yoyo... how does she wake up and carry on [yes i know she has her own special way of coping] but she does cope in her own fashion. what is this thing in us?

sorry i have probably made u think im a complete nutter... but sometimes i do wonder.

so here i am today with some new vim and vigour of my own:
gonna do a new debt report of outgoings to see the real picture, have a couple of new projects needing my small withered brain to work through, have the house to get straight and admin too, have the kids to sort... so plenty to keep my self busy. before we know it we will be in december... wow where did the year go?

oh yes - had several enquiries into my passport cleaning services.. might give that a go... nah only joking! learnt yet another 'life' lesson! gosh im learning loads at mo.

    whats new with you?

  • Hello Mrs mcr

Said would pop in and here I am. Gosh, you've had a philosophical sort of day so far, haven't you? And you are right, of course. The human spirit is amazing. Otherwise, how do people cope in the face of massive genocides, concentration camps and other daily tragedies? People like the McCanns, who lost their little girl? So think we've all got that little flame inside us, it just needs something to ignite it, and off we go again, striving, endeavouring, keeping on keeping on. Me, I believe in the innate goodness of people. Obviously there's loads of bad eggs round too, but personally think most people want to be happy and do others a good turn if they can. Which is why MSE is a great tool - loads of people, all willing to share and help you along the way. Gives you a big ol' warm feeling, doesn't it?

BTW, saw your posts about the playground - share your pain there. Was at parents' evening last night, listening to the old competitive parenting:

P1 : "Well, of couse Katie's now in top French and Spanish"
P2 "Which is EXCELLENT" (meant anything but)
P1 "I think the tutoring helped, actually. Have you ever considered it for Janey?" (subtext: yeah, you and your dumb-!!! kid)
P2 "No, I'm sure she'll come good in her own good time" (subtext: you horrible hot-houser, are you suggesting my Janey needs extra help?)

Which perhaps rather contradicts what said above about the goodness of people, but still, just report what I see. Really try not to join in. Helps that with 3 of them to keep track of, can personally never remember who's done what, when or where, so always left trailing in the wake of the uber-parents!

Hope the projects you mention are paid ones? Feel sure from your posts, you will be fine, and it's a struggle for sure, but bound to bring out our inner creativity and yes, masses of learning to be done.

    Bye for now

That's cos most father's are not sure what year their kids are in and what subjects they're doing anyway!

I worked with one guy with 3 sons. Youngest turned 18 and he was taking them all out dinner. He rushed off home, via the shops to get a gift wrapped present and card for junior, only to find he was actually 17. That's not impressive. 3 boys had dinner, emptied his wallet and told him he couldn't come clubbing with them because he was too old (he's 45) :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Is OH safely back abroad now?
