OH suggested uploading Linux and shunting the doodah to the watchamacallit and integrating the widgit to the fidget - or it sounded like that!

Bottom line is they'll get the stuff off for you.

Can you boot it up in safe mode and enter the DOS system from there? I know it is the underlying one and i have got into it that way before. I think you have to press F8 a few times, whilst it begins to boot up. I am sure someone on techie board could talk you through it.

hey boredofbeingat home... thanks for that suggestion... have already tried. i am ashamed to say as someone who has worked in IT for the last 20yrs i didnt back up my own laptop! ha ha but i have been told i can get the data of into an external hard drive soooo all good.!

I know the feeling Mrs M,re work and home.Mr.B works as a Manager of a large office and is also an auditor---you would think since he can balance to the penny at work that he could do the same with his own:rolleyes::rotfl:

Mind i do similar things as i teach and i am always nagging the kids to get ahead with their essays and i leave my own to the last minute.
