    Debt-free and Proud!
Hi Mrs! Another cracking day I see. Good for you.

Again, not to make it all about me, but you are so right about learning whats important.

We don't have half the stuff we had before things went bad, but I realised this week that, five years later, I am actually happy. And relaxed. And not remotely on edge. I feel at peace now after five years of being uneasy and holding my breath waiting for the conclusion of the thing of which we do not speak. I became pregnant soon after the 'thing', moved house six weeks after baby was born (as well as four times after- hence the Gypsy!) because we needed tenants to cover the massive mortage and went back to work full time after five months maternity because we couldn't afford to live on maternity pay. I vowed I would never have another baby under that kind of stress.

My baby is now nearly four, and I am thinking she might like a sibling... ;)

Hi Mrs cmr..I have read most of this thread and you mentioned lower payments on some cards and a loan? Also, mortgage holiday.

Have you had the interest frozen on the cards??...as that is the killer...you work like mad, pull in extra £££, cut back to the bone......all to pay the interest to the fatcats...oh, and a little off the debt.

Once you sort out a self managed DMP with your card conpanies .......some are easier than others...Lloyds Mastercard...fab, Barclaycard and MBNA, I had to take to The Ombudsman.

The worst thing about the past decade was how easy and 'normal ' it was to access huge amounts of credit...if it hadn't have been there (like during the 90's) we just wouldn't have taken it.
For us it enabled us to mask certain business issues that we should have dealt with harshly...but instead, to save jobs for our employess, we chose to 'ride it out' and funded it with the masses of credit availble to us.

Once we decided to muller our credit score and go on a DMP that I organised direct with card companies, hubby did get 'scared' that we wouldn't have access to credit for a long time.....but I won...and it was the best thing we ever did.

Car has to go off the road for a while if we cannot pay for the repair out of available funds...tough, even if it is essential for work. We used to run our lives like that years ago during gthe 90's...everyone did. Hubby has got the hang of it now.;)

Now we are sorting out F+ F settlements and it feels good.

Good luck with the new jobs and paying down the debt...it does get better.

Yes you are!! (getting a job and nailing the debt I mean NOT doing it again)

I have just caught up with the last week of postings. Congratulations to your OH on the job. That must have been a huge sigh of relief. Well done on the mystery shop - when I was on jsa for all of six weeks two years ago I was allowed to work 10 hours per week. Can't remember if there was an actual amount £ that was allowed.

Finally how is/are the swine flu sufferers? I don't know anyone that has had it so can't offer any advice on that I'm afraid.
