Oh the shame of bankruptcy!!! What will the neighbours, the cat, the postman think?

I am looking at some of the messages for the last few days and thinking what your feelings are regarding bankruptcy.
Some people appear to be quite open about it to all and very positive, others hide it, frightened and ashamed...
What have the reactions been from family, friends, workmates and anyone else you think is significant?
What impact has that behaviour had on you?
How did you manage it - what did you do to take the wind out of their sails?
Personally speaking I really don't care what people think of me, but other people seem to feel that it might be contagious or probably more likely "she's no longer able to give us what we want" - I am not doing anything to win them back.

My feelings are that it is my buisness but if anybody wants to ask about the process or whatever then I am quite prepared to talk to them about it. I have not told many people that I am about to be BR but I am not ashamed that I will be. I think a lot of that has come from this board and the members on it :T
Bit like an STD really. I wouldnt brag about it but if anyone asked......:rotfl:. It is not incurable

We haven't told anyone.
Our parents wouldn't understand and would be very judgemental (we both come from comfortable backgrounds). All our friends are pretty well off (well appear to be anyway!) and I don't think they would really understand.
We feel its our business. Although we don't feel ashamed by it I think people are very ignorant to what BR actually is and the whole process and therefore some people automatically label you because of it.0 -
ive only told my family and close friends and they was abit shocked at first as they didnt really know what BR was about and thought it was like going to prison type of thing but once i had explained everything they was ok with it.
i havent shouted it from the rooftops as its my business but if i get asked i will tell. but then its not something you ask really like its not something you can really slip into a conversation to tell people who didnt know about your debtsIf you want to see the rainbow ,you gotta put up with some rain0 -
I haven't told anyone but that is not to say that I am "frightened and ashamed" - far from it, I am quite proud of myself for going through it all alone (albeit with the help from here).
I feel it is nobody else's business and I really don't think that people will be falling over themselves congratulating me, so I have kept quiet. Nor do I enjoy peoples sympathetic looks as if I am someone who has tried and failed!

Don't really care who knows myself (though it is only for another day

All of my friends and family know and are fine with it and they're the ones that matter!:hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0 -
