There seems to be a lot of bias agains immigration on this board lately. To balance things out, I'm offering to answer any questions you may have about my experiences so far about being an immigrant in the U.K.

Let's clear the air, provide solid information that is factual, and have a good debate on how immigration policies should be changed (or not) during times of economic hardship.

So ask away.

Do they try to make threads that are on-topic in your homeland nm1213?

Perhaps an idea to give a quick synopsis:

Where from? - Canada.
Why? - SO came here to study. I followed via a workpermit/intra-company transfer.
Status - 5 year workpermit.
Claim benefits? - Not a chance. Not allowed.
Economic contribution - Taxes, more taxes, tuition fees now total over £100,000 for both of us (no loans or subsidies from UK).
Social contribution - Volunteer work mainly.
Debts? - Not a penny.
Future? - Plan on settling
House Prices? - Crazy compared to Canada. No value at all here. However, have a big deposit and will buy once I get my PR.

The thread is on topic. A discussion about immigration policies during a recession/depression is perfectly valid.

There is a lot of misinformation about what immigrants are entitled to, how they contribute, and what should be done in the immediate future to expand/curtail numbers.

I've lived and worked in many countries. Life is too short to spend it in one place. The U.K. is a nice place to live, and I'm looking forward to settling here.

Believe it or not, the opportunities available here are absolutely fantastic.

I would like you to answer me these questions three:

1. Are you and your family hard working? At least as, and preferably exceeding, the hard work output of a hard working, non benefit claiming family in a Labour constituency.

2. Have you taken our jobs?

3. Have you stolen our women?
