Completely confused re phone/net/TV

Please can any one give me some advice? I have scoured these threads and still can not get to grips with what/who I should go with.

I am about to move into my new home. I want unlimited internet access. I am pretty sure the Guy who lives there now uses Tiscali.

There is a sky dish on the roof. Am I right in thinking I can not get internet from Sky unless I have a 'live' phone, which I won't have when I move in I presume. Will I have to get BT to 'connect' the phone, or would Sky do this. Will BT do it if I'm not going to be their customer?

I looked at BT deals, but even with the whole package you still seem to have to pay line rental, so any deal is bumped up by ?10 pounds a month.

Don't think I can get Talk Talk as I think I'm a bit too rural, but not too sure.

I would like as many free calls as I can get, but would settle for evening and w/e only.

Not too bothered about TV. Will probably get Sky in the end, but no hurry. Happy to buy a Sky box or similar and settle for the free stuff if don't get a deal from Sky.

Any help would be great as I'm a complete numpty at stuff like this.:o

Thanks .

Yes you will need a phone line - if you want to see if you can get certain providers then use SamKnows - that link will take you to the page where you can search by house number and postal code :) It will tell you what main providers are available and what type of service - the vital bit is really if there is LLU on the exchange you're connected to.
If you get phone through Talktalk or tiscali etc then you would end up paying line rental to them I think - I honestly don't know if they would be able to instigate the conenction of the line to you but your best bet I think would be to call either of them and ask :)

As for unlimited internet access... do you mean unlimited downloads?

    Thanks MrsTine.
Yes I do mean unlimited downloads. I did look at the site SamKnows, and it says there is no LLU available from the exchange, I do know the guy there uses Tiscali, I remember this from paperwork in details we had from our solicitor.
I will try ringing various companies and asking.

I certainly wouldn't go with Tiscali, in the current climate Martin suggests you should be wary of starting a new contract with them.

If there is no LLU available the you would probably go on Datastream or IP stream - this will affect your line speed greatly unfortunately... Not all providers will supply over DS or IPstream because the cost is much higher - Tiscali do and I am certain TalkTalk do but it will come down to availability on the exchange... most providers are not buying more DS lines so get your order in ASAP in case no-one is already queueing for the current home owners line... otherwise you might end up stuck with BT...

Not sure what you are recommending here, Tiscali or TalkTalk over all other ISPs?
