Orange C905 keep getting faulty ones HELP!!

Hi,

I have a contract with orange, actually two mine and my girlfriends on one account. We both recently upgraded and got C905's. However, i've had loads of problem. At first i just thought it was a bad batch, i've had loads of Sony Erricsson phones (K700, K750, K800). When I make a call, i can't hear the other person. It's driving me crazy because i have to talk to everybody on speakerphone. But this is the third phone i've had off Orange. And now they're saying they wont replace it. They seem to think it's a software issue but I can't help thinking its a hardware issue.

My girlfriends phone has also developed a fault. It's unbelievably slow for a start and the display seems to have shifted over to the right, cutting a letter off text messages etc.

I've been waiting for two days for a call from technical support, with no joy.
I asked if it would be possible to return the phone, I have the box etc, and if i could get a different phone. Maybe an X1?

Any way i was just wondering does anybody know what my rights are in this situation. I recieved my upgrades in January.

Thanks in advance everybody.

SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • I'm on o2, and just about to send my C905 off for a repair yet again - exactly the same problem.

They've said they're allowed to give 3 repairs or replacements before they will let you change the model, I don't know if it's the same on Orange.

Just got off the phone to orange, third call. They'll only replace it with the same model because there isn't a phone available with similar specification, he said, try back in 6 months... hopefully this one will be ok. JP

Is it not common knowledge that this handset has the same issues the K850 had when that came out, will take SE a while to get a software fix no doubt.

The earpiece issue is a common fault with the C905, as is the screen going. I've sent mine off twice for repair and it's only 4 months old. The SE repair centers are a joke too, sent mine off twice, both time it was returned without the faults actually being fixed, but with the letter stating it had been repaired and tested.

Have orange given a reason why they won't replace the faulty handset? If I were you I'd give trading standards a call and check what your rights are, surely they have to repair or replace it. I could be wrong, but you can't lose anything by calling them.

Oh dear, I've got a C905, I'm just waiting for it to go wrong now! I had a dodgy battery which had to be changed, but that was sorted out very quickly and easily.

That's crap, mate. I did LOADS of research into the top handsets before I took my upgrade with o2... it ended up being a straight fight between the LG Renoir and the SE C905. That was after looking at this GSM Arena article on the 8megapixel camera phones - http://www.gsmarena.com/8_megapixel_grand_shootout-review-296.php

C905 - pros were the obvious quality of the camera itself and the far better xenon flash. Cons were the amazingly poor reliability of the handset. And the fact I just got through an 18 month contract with that handset as a brick for the last three months meant I was dubious about risking the C905.

Renoir - pros were the surprising quality of the camera and the LG reliability. Cons were the full touchscreen interface, which I'm not keen on.

I ended up going for the Renoir, as I would rather have a phone that didn't spend more time at Sony Ericsson's repair shop than in my pocket, where it belongs.

I've been using it now for the past week and can happily say I made the right choice. The touchscreen interface is much the same as the Viewty, which I am not that keen on. However, the camera quality is very surprising indeed. Indoors under poor lighting conditions, it's adequate, but outside in good light it's definitely a match for the Sony, no question.

It's also a far more attractive piece of kit than I expected.

I'd say that if you're given a choice over a replacement for the C905, or looking for an alternative prior to upgrading, you'd get a lot, lot worse than the LG Renoir... very nice kit indeed.
