Which Printer?

I bought an Epson D88 about two months ago as it was recommended as a Best Buy in PC Advisor, I think. I'm really pleased with it. Reasonably priced, good quality printing and fast enough for me. Had an Epson C46 before it and it was fine too. I've always used compatible cartridges in the printers to cut costs and have found them fine.0

I can't do links but see the post in "Quick grabbit while you can" titled Brother all in printer £49.99 PC World Its a model up from the one I previously mentioned but a cracking price IMO. Apparently you order from website and pick it up in store.

MORPH3US wrote:I think that might be a one off mate. Depends on a lot of things like how warm / dry the area is you keep the printer, quality if ink you use etc etc. The light usage might have been the problem, if left unused for a while the ink can dry and block the nozzle. You can get cleaning carts for the Epson that should clear it!!!
I know a lot of people who swear by Epson.
I had a Canon MP360and the same thing happened to me as happened to your Epson. Could happen any time.
The advantage of having the print heads in the printer rather than on the carts is that the carts end up costing a lot less!!!
It could well be it was unfortunate that I had a one off, but I'm not willing to continue filling Epson's coffers every 18 months.
I bought cleaning carts for it, followed the instructions to the letter and it had no effect.
Right now I'm swearing at Epson rather than by them!
But I can understand those who think they're a good company and fair play to them.
At least when the Canon's print heads go they can be thrown away and a new set put into place. You're right about the carts, but I'd rather have cheaper overall running costs and anyway Canon aren't exactly known for their expensive carts!0 -
I've got an Epson Stylus 880. Had it four four years. Never put an Epson genuine cartridge in it (apart from the ones that came with it!). Still as good as the day I bought it. I never pay more than a couple of quid for cartridges. One thing to consider is the price of the cartridges. If you don't mind using compatibles then take a look at some cheap replacement cartridge websites, such as Maximans. This may sway you towards certain brands/models."...IT'S FRUITY!"0

Eh???
Canon are the same as Epson in that the print heads are built into the printer so why not buy a new print head for your Epson?!?!
Incidentally when my Canon got a blocked Printhead, I got a new one priced up - £60?!?!?!? New Epson R220 = £57 so obviously I went for the new Epson!

Thanks for all the advice guys!
The Canon ip4200 seems a popular choice, does anybody know whether there are compatible ink cartridges available for it yet?0 -

Quick google search bought up this site www.cartridgesave.co.uk/cartridge-list/Canon/Pixma-iP4200.html but they look expensive to me.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

Because unlike the Canon printer which I'm after, Epson CX 5400 print head replacements are very hard to find.
Which model Canon did you originally purchase?0 -

Canon MP360 mate - print heads not easy to find for that either. Canon no help whatsoever when stuff is out of warranty - didn't want to know!0
