I am looking for a new general purpose colour ink-jet printer, mainly for documents, letters etc, prehaps a few photographs.
I've been considering the Epson Stylus D68/D88.
Any comments/suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

The HP Photosmart 8450 is well worth a look, although it cost around £1302 heads are better than 1….unless they are on the same body!0

I've recently been looking at the Canon Pixma range, which look quite good. Current printer, which is now on its way out, is a Canon and has been very good. Ink lasts for quite some time and is a lot cheaper than other brands - not sure about this "transparent ink" system though - apparently supposed to save on ink and be better on print heads?!
Costs around £65 - you can also get a printout from one from the canon website here.0 -
My Epson Stylus CX5400 has recently conked out after 18 months of light usage and wouldn't recommend them.
Epson printer headers are built into the printer, so once they go you've got a lump of expensive plastic on your hands.
Right now I'm seriously tempted by the Canon Pixman MP500 which looks the business and can be had for around £150 on Ebuyer. Has the added bonus of disposable print heads!

I have the PCanon Pixma 3000 (no longer available) and I swear by Canon Pixma's for quality reproduction, ease of use and cheap ink. I understand that the cheaper ones work really well but without the bells and whistles of the more expensive ones. I buy from here and always get a good deal

I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
Our Epson recently went wrong and we got a Brother DCP-110C. Its a 4 in 1 printer and is excellent. Hubby can get replacement inks for it (set of 4) for £15. We got it (due to a deal seen on here) for £45 but I think now they are about £100. They are well worth it though.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0

I'm just looking to get a printer, but mainly for photos. I'm tempted by the Canon ip5200R, I got a couple of sample prints from the Canon website and it looks pretty good. This is a wireless model so I can hde it away.
Anyone got this model, an opinion would be a help.

Lol, look at PC Pro:

They quite literally did a massive printer labs test. Something like 15 printers. From looking in the entry level range, the Epson Stylus Photo R240 does well and is only £74. The HP Photosmart 8250 also does well at £110."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

I think that might be a one off mate. Depends on a lot of things like how warm / dry the area is you keep the printer, quality if ink you use etc etc. The light usage might have been the problem, if left unused for a while the ink can dry and block the nozzle. You can get cleaning carts for the Epson that should clear it!!!
I know a lot of people who swear by Epson.
I had a Canon MP360and the same thing happened to me as happened to your Epson. Could happen any time.
The advantage of having the print heads in the printer rather than on the carts is that the carts end up costing a lot less!!!0 -
Yeah totally agree there. I had an Epson, and now have an HP. You can pick up a printer for quite a reasonable price, it's the running costs (new catridges) that have really hit me with the HP."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0

I've got a magicolor 2300 colour laser I picked up from ebay for £70, the toners have lasted 6months + so far and you can pick up a reset tip for the toner carts when they show empty (theres still about 20-25% of toner in them at that point!), also reset the opc belt for about 20p which usually cost £ 150 ish!
Shows that with a bit of work colour lasers can be affordable too.0
