I put some vinegar in the rinse aid tray when i use the dishwasher.

If you can get to a Chinese or asian supermarket you can get white wine condiment £1.99 for 5 litres.

    hello
am i right that the white vinegar is distilled?

My book says use distilled white vinegar. Like you the only one that was in my local supermarket was labelled distilled malt and was clear. I guess this must be the same thing. I've tried the standard brown malt before and it was rubbish, I got discouraged and haven't bothered to try the white yet.

For the dishwasher the book says use one cup. I would just throw it in the bottom when it starts to wash (empty load though!) If you put it in first it'll probably get pumped straight out!

Bizzarly the book says use a proprietry limescale remover for the washing machine, which is a bit strange as it is all lemons and vinegar for everything else. But there are plenty of people on this site who swear by a cup on an empty hot wash.

As for how often, I do it as often as I do my kettle, which is when it looks bad!

    Hi,

    Please can you help.

Please can you let me know what you have found that is the best and easiest thing to get limescale off the spout of a tap, they are chrome but have plastic at the end of the spout and its building up in this plastic gridle (for want of a better term).

    Thanks

White vinegar - as an acid, it is the natural enemy of alkaline limescale.

Its a tricky position, though. Soak a cloth or tissue in it and then wrap this around the spout. Or tie a plastic cup onto the spout - like a nosebag for a horse - and then put the vinegar in this.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

Jam a squeezed out lemon or lime half over the end and hold in place with an elastic band. Leave for several hours (over night if the scale is very bad)

    I've been Money Tipped!
I live with my parents :o and do most of the housework, but today I ventured to their private top floor and noticed that the shower is very, very badly suffering from the extremely hard water we have here.

To give some idea I use a non-old style limescale heavy duty cleaner once a fortnight in the bathroom on my level, and even then I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle!

Upstairs the limescale has deposits all along the shower door. I spent some time scrubbing with the limescale remover (after leaving it on for some time) and there is a huge amount left....Now...the shower head and doors etc I can cope with easily (I'm actually de crusting th shower head with a saftey pin and the limescale is popping out rather disgustingly but easily) but the door runners are defeating me.....

    ideas please!
