Nokia 6300, 4 months old, dust under screen problem

I have a Nokia 6300 thats on a contract, its 4 months old and dust is beginning to get under the screen. On closer investigation it looks like the metal fasia has come apart slighty on one side of the phone. The phone is never treated roughly and is either in my pocket or on my desk at work / home. Who is responsible for sorting this out ? I took it to my local Nokia 'care and repair' centre today and they point blankly refused to even clean the dust from under the screen. Whats my best course of action now ?

  • Did you get a new phone with your contract? If so, ring your provider to get a return code so that they can investigate the problem. It may be worth taking a photo of the phone showing how the fascia is coming apart.

You will be asked to keep the battery and charger, and send it to the repair centre. Virgin provided excellent service when I had a fault with a reconditioned 6300 within the guarantee period.

If the phone wasnt purchased with the contract, and you have no warranty with the seller, then you will probably have to bear the cost of repair yourself. I would be surprised if a local shop could do the repair as its supposed to be a sealed unit.

Yes it was a new phone when the contract started, by provider do you mean network provider ie Vodaphone ?
  • I hate when that happens on LCD screens.

    Doesn't surprise me.
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Hello Tyler,

Your phone will have a 24 month manufacturer warranty for 'mechanical breakdown/failure'. As long as it's not Customer/accidental damage, then your service provider (VF did you say?) will exchange it under warranty.

If it has been accidentally damaged then it isn't covered under warranty but if you have insurance on it then Vf will exchange it under that for you.
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j

It's not dust under the screen , it's dust between the screen and the screen cover, which is part of the front cover.
If you remove the front cover you can just clean it yourself if you want. If the fititng is faulty then more dust will get in, but it may just be that is wasn't snapped quite fully shut to make a dustproof seal.
If you don't want to do this yourself any independent shop or market stall will do it for you. It's a 5 minute job.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Taking the cover off myself will void the warranty. (As will letting someone down the market do it)

    I'd do as macman suggested.

Don't see the warranty issue as that big an issue as they won't fix it anyway, plus if you use a T6 Torx driver carefully as to not mark the screws how would they know you'd remove the cover anyway?

Done it mself many a time with the 6300 to swap between a Silver and Black Case.

Just thought the Black Case I bought was a official Nokia one from the Nokia Service Centre who fitted it for me first time, so maybe if you did similar you could ask them to clean the dust off. Just a thought.
    Cheers

Then you need to take it back to Vodafone and let them deal with Nokia. Nokia won't deal with you direct as you have no contract with them. I suspect that all it is is poor assembly. I had one of these with the same problem, the front cover is a tight fit and if not quite seated down properly and evenly, dust will get in.

I had a problem with my Vodafone phone, a Nokia 6288, it wasn't charging, was almost at the end of its 24month warrenty.
I was told to take it to CPW for repair, they had it in but it was still faulty when I got it back, but also, there was a hairline crack in the screen that I was sure wasn't there when I took it in. I didn't notice before I left the shop as it wasn't switch on in the shop.
I was going away the next day, so I couldn't take it back until the week after. CWP didn't believe that they had caused the crack and I couldn't prove it, they said it was an old crack as they said there was dust ender the glass, although I couldn't see any dust. They had another go at fixing the repair, but it still wouldn't charge. I wrote to CWP customer services about the crack and the fact that they didn't repair the phone - they said it was the battery and wanted £40 for a new one:eek: , plus £45 to replace the screen which they had cracked:eek: . Their CS didn't even bother answering, so I contacted Nokia, said I had been a loyal customer for years and wasn't happy with their recommended repair centre.
I got a letter from Nokia asking me to get in touch with their service manager, she was brilliant, sent a courier the next day to pick the phone up and within a week I had a brand new phone delivered. Considering that I only had about a month of warrenty left on the old one I was more than pleased.
So if you don't have any luck with either Voda or CWP, go straight to Nokia.
