Sorry but I don't agree. Most items of swimwear has a label saying to keep pants on when when trying it on. And we are always being told that we should be properly fitted for a bra. So how are you supposed to do that without trying one on?

They shouldn't get a refund, I think it's yucky and incredibly unhygenic and thoughtless to want to try under clothing without consideration for other people.

I wouldn't wear your knickers after you've been in them, why should a custume be any different?

You should accept the decision with good grace and move on.

Arrrrgggh! This is not about whether you should be able to return underwear/swimming costumes/earrings if you change your mind or don't like it when you get it home. It's about Tesco selling two products that were (a) faulty and (b) misdescribed. It's irrelevant what the product was! If Tesco decide not to re-sell them, that's their loss for selling faulty goods in the first place, so yuckiness doesn't come into it.

If the shop has displayed a sign, theyve fullfilled their obligation. These additional rights a store gives re returns exchanges are not the law but just good customer service. You say one of the items were faulty. What kind of fault, and did you present them with this fact immediately. If you only added it when they refused you i could see you would be seen in a suspicious light. If the clothing just didnt fit, thats not the same as not "as Described".A thread hanging off for example would not be enough to describe as faulty.

Thanks to everyone that posted. I've had a letter from Tesco HO today. They have said that they will not offer a refund or exchange, but I can take the damaged item back to any store for a full refund. Plus they've sent me a moneycard to the value of £8 for my inconvenience. Better than nothing and a lesson learnt. Never buy swimwear from Tesco without trying it on first!!
