In the basic range Sainsburys do milk chocolate digestives 300g for 25p. That is the same price as Tescos.

There Basic OJ and apple juice are around 33p a litre which I feel is about the same as tescos.

I personally find Lidl/Aldi hard to do a whole shop in as I don't buy a lot of pre-packaged foods. And don't like to buy lots of chocolates or biscuits when I go shopping.

But can get a few items that are cheaper there then else where like bleach, washing up liquid and washing powder.

    Yours

  • Hello fellow money savers, I'm fairly new to money saving expert and so I'm still going around open -mouthed at the things I'm learning! I have read in a few posts (where people have tantalizingly hinted) that Asda supermarket accept all coupons you produce whether you have purchased the items or not. Have I picked this up wrong? Yours hopefully,

That's correct... the exact policy can differ from store to store though - ours accept up to 10% of your shop value in coupons (so £2 of £20). Just today though they told us they dont accept sainsburys vouchers anymore
  • My main problem I suppose is that my OH is a bit of a food snob. He turns his nose up if I don't buy Heinz beans etc, I've been buying Supermarket own brands for a while now and have sneakily buying value/basics stuff gradually which I can 'de-package' and he won't know what brand they are!

Does anyone else suffer with this?
Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!
  • I buy the bread, which is only 25p, their eggs, which is £1.19 for 15, and their mild cheddar cheese.

    Great prices for a student!
  • I buy most of the value stuff, certain things are utter rubbish like cornflakes but I do get the Shop's own brand instead so I'm still not buying the branded item.

I buy their own Apple juice for smoothies and Tesco extra value.

I also buy Tesco value white copier paper at £1.94 for 500 sheets (80gsm) which we find excellent quality and "up" with other well known brands you pay over £4 for.
  • I'm a regular consumer of Sainsbury's Basics Orange Juice and every now and again their Basics Dark Chocolate  ! Although I must admit I prefer Tesco Value Dark Chocolate ;) !

One Basics thing I steer well clear of is the Wheat Biscuits (Weetabix) talk about tasteless s#!+e  ! And also Tesco Value Bran Flakes are another thing I avoid - it's like eating cardboard in bowl drenched in ice cold milk  !

Sainsbury's basic peach slices in syrup are excellent.

  • muffinhead...if you stick to the sainsbury or tesco normal barand of weetabix in the same shape 24's as weetabix ... it's made by weetabix and is a bargain at about 69p compared to weetabix at £1.15+

It's the value offerring in the little dumpy box that is made by sunnybisk and is better for insulation purposes than to eat !!!
