What do you think of Sainsburys Basics Range?

I've recently tried a few things from there and although not as cheap as Tesco Value (as least I don't think this is the case) most things seem quite goods quality.
Particular faves are
Frozen Yorkshire Puddings (lazy I know but always handy to have in case I mess up!)
Mature Cheese
Sandwich Ham
Orange Juice
Didn't think much of the Sausage Rolls, they were quite dry and the meat was a bit overseasoned!

Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!

I suggest you visit Lidl..One you get over the "stigma" and over the threshold you will realise that the prices they charge for their foods are either the same or less than the "value" ranges in the large supermarkets..The difference is that generally the quality is superb (yes I didn't believe it till I tried)..They are German companies and basically they don't allow the poor quality that we in this country allow our supermarkets to dish us up with.
Try it you will be amazed..also do a search on the forum for "Lidl" & "Aldi" and you will see reams of notes from posters who have found out likewise! The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0 -
We don't have a Lidl locally, we have Aldi and Netto and have been quite impressed with Netto although find Aldi an absolute nightmare to shop in. Could just be the one by me, but it is tiny and always rammed!!Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!0

Am very impressed with the Basic meat cuts esp. the Pork Hock - not available in other stores. 1.33 Kg for £2.11 = 72p/lbVeteran Bargain Hunter -
Best ever bargain: Rugby shirts (seconds) @ 20p0 -
sainsburys basic plain chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate all for 25 p per bar
why is this good......no other supermarket does white chocolate at that price
mmmmmmmmmm chocolate0 -
I would agree that it is quite a different shopping experience in the Lidl's and Aldi's to the Sainsbury's but then if you are prepared to do without the whafting of fresh bread, the nectar points and the free carrier bags you will save yourself a load of money..
I was trying to be tactful but in my experience ( and I accept I haven't tried them all) the Value range stuff in the large supermarkets IMHO is rubbish ..They are also very clever as they don't really want you to buy it because at the checkouts it denotes you as being a poor person and your kids will hate you for it
Me I don't buy into all that rubbish and gave up on the Tesco & Sainsbury main shop a long time ago..The Lidl's and Aldi's are great but you do unfortunately have to go to the others for "top up" shopping because their ranges are limited
Good Luck! The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0 -

I love the tinned sweetcorn.
Often try using the basic range.
Wish we had Aldi etc near here.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
79.5 coupons rolled over 4/75.5 coupons spent - using for secondhand purchases

I always by the basic range of apple juice for the kids to drink instead of squash. It's a bargain at 35p (I have also looked in Aldi and all the supermarkets basic ranges are cheaper for this, as Aldi have a plastic spout on their cartons, so think you are paying for the packaging!) per carton the kids really enjoy it.
The cheese is fine 2.0 -

Tesco do an economy version of white chocolate. I ate a whole bar at the weekend.0 -
Sainsbury's basics, what's ok for us:
bread (you try stopping kids from loving white sliced)
tinned tomatoes
sweetcorn
salmon
cheese and tomato pizza
apples
small juice cartons
their cakes/tarts/mini rolls etc for birthday parties!
IS it more expensive than tescos or is it an image thing? I challenge someone to do a list comparing tesco value with sainsburys basics!!!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!
