I can see both sides of the argument here. Few of us spend that sort of money on our food bills each week so there is a good programme to be had in showing the difference that could be saved. Perhaps though there is also mileage in finding a low income family who survive on good (not rubbish) meals for a family of 4 on say £40 a week (Or whatever is a realistic figure for a low income family - my food bill is higher than that I will admit.) so that others can be shown exactly how it can be done. I would find it interesting to see how someone cooks well on a low udget. Always room for improvement in my household.Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. if you can send your kids to a private school, then you dont need to watch your food bill.
Oh please get real, some of us choose to make sacrifices to give our children what we believe to be the best start in life, just because my child goes to private school doesn't mean we are rich, far from it however, we all make choices i choose to work full time and to go without a lot in life for a few years in the hope that my child gets the opportunities that we didn't! some of you may wish to spend there money on computer games, smoking and designer clothes your choice just to insult ours!0 -

Its their money not there money. Were you educated privately by any chance?
My children are at Grammar school actually, so great education and no cost.
Dont know why you are all getting on your high horses, what you all spend your money on is none of my business!!save 10k by Dec 2009 10,000/ 3034.000 -
Why would someone try to save money and make a program about it where it is already managed to the level of perfection?? That would be reaaaaally interesting program - NOT. The only advice he would be able to give you would be "well, now you can start eating slugs from your garden, that will save you a bit money".
Actually I think a programme about 'yer average person' would be quite interesting and informative. There are many more people out there who are having to survive on quite a small amount and are probably finding it quite difficult. Not all of us spend all our time on MSE - there is a life out there you know:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: It would also bring the site to a wider audience.
My point was its very easy to make a programme about people who are vastly overspending (well, at least they are overspending in my opinion). It's not so easy to make a programme about those who are struggling to stay within a tight budget! Also not such provocative telly - but I thought telly was there to inform, as well as entertain?SMILE....they will wonder what you are up to...........;)0 -
the program made me laugh, the couples posh son sounded just the the posh bloke off last years apprentice, think his name was raef?0

I think the programme was quite good. Yes they were obviously well off, nice house, kids at a private school but they still felt the need to save money on the food bill. I think the family particulary her husband thought that buying brand foods was the only way to shop. If she had told him they we going to eat basics for a week he probably would have objected. I have friends who are always talking about having no money, know about MSE yet still but branded food because DP and kids prefer it!!!!!! They are the food snobs! I personally don't care what value stuff I have in my trolley the more the better. My sister-in-laws family are organic and would never have value anything. But when we do lunch for them the plates are cleared! Butchers meat value veg and puddings made with value flour and butter.0

Perhaps you don't realise - but there aren't many grammar schools left! I don't understand how you can say it is none of your business, when you have clearly made an assumption about people who send their children to private school. In your earlier post you state that 'these people' don't need to watch their food bill.
By the way, I find it very petty that you made the comment about the other person's spelling, another assumption perhaps? I thought this site was for advice and support?0 -

No, it's education at a great cost to other people.0 -
