I expressed concern about having someone else's name and possibly debts associated with my address but was told "as it's in the client's name nothing will come back to you at your address."
Anyway, I politely declined, and from the tone of the caller it sounds like they get that a lot!
I'm not so sure about your address being safe from being 'blacklisted' if the Sky subscriber turns out to be dodgy. The way I hear it is, given half an excuse the credit agencies can put a black mark on what they like, leaving you to prove it's not you (after all, you could just have changed your name as a smoke-screen). Lots of people have moved into new premises to find that their credit rating has been adversely affected by the previous occupant - having to leave unusually large deposits for things like phone installations springs to mind.
Quickpenny rang me back too, and explained what the service was all about, but I used the excuse that I had come to realise this would prevent me from renting Sky in the future, as my address would already be on Sky's database. Not actually likely as Murdoch can rot in hell as far as I'm concerned.0 -
I got same e-mail however not eligible as I'm a sky subscriber.
Got to be something dodgy with sky cards at a guess. I'd avoid anyway0 -

This sounds very much like the "can we have your bank details so we can give your account a spring clean? We will remove all the dirt, grime and money through a completely safe process. Honest!"Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

Hmmm, slightly stereotyped view of retirees preferring to live out their days in the sun, doncha think?.
Slightly stereotyped view of expats, don't you think?
I was an expat for four years. I am neither retired nor was I living out my days. Nor were most of the people round me, though many were very dodgy.0 -
This certainly does sound dodgy, what happens if the ex-pat doesn't pay Sky? Obviously Sky will block their card but I take it they'll also pass the details onto a debit collection agency and also to credit reference agencies. In the current climate do you really want to be unable to get a mortgage because a credit reference agency says someone at your address hasn't been paying their bills or how's it going to look if you've got to explain to debit collection agents that the person doesn't live there, it's just a scam so someone else can get Sky?
Then again will this just be limited to Sky TV? I take it this could expand to other services, expanding the risk that you forward mail for someone with bad debit!0 -
well, im glad i decided to do a google search on the subject and before people start taking the proverbial i was brought up with the "the only stupid question is the one you dont ask, if you dont ask, you wont find out!!" attitude, so im glad i asked.... i`ve been getting the newsletters for a while but am now registered, thanks for the info :-)0
