At medival in Manchester they did isolation studies for a few weeks - some FOAF went and spent the summer in there and revised for his retakes ;) and got paid shedloads.

!!!!!!??? How can a person go mad in just three months. I'll be sitting happily in the cell next door.

Actually, did you get to have stuff or was it just an empty room? If there wasn't anything to do your ways of keeping yourself amused could probably look a bit mad to an observer. But if there were books n stuff it would be fine. And was there a window so you could watch the sky? I'm not going if there's no sky.
Just a white room with a bed I think. Meals through a slot in the door. Probably a room about 7'x8'.

Sitting like that as "your life" would get you down, but sitting in there for just 3 months knowing in 3 months' time you'd pick up a cool £27k makes it a worthwhile pasttime in my opinion.... you wouldn't need to work for 2 years :)

I'd just lay on the bed and think. I have thousands of things to think about. And count. I could count for hours and hours because I'd not feel I was wasting my time because there'd be no alternative to being there.

I'd view it as a job. A 3 month contract. There's no guilt about not doing something better with your time if choice is removed. So I'd sit and think and count. I'd blink too. Blinking can be fun.

There's loads you can do. Waggle your toes, blink, pull funny faces, hum, think, count things in your head.

Oh god yes. I'd sit and calculate how much I was earning per second. It would be great.

Did you get any privacy for bathroom stuff? Not sure I'd like it if there wasn't. I could cope without a window for that amount of money. And there are lots of books in my head I'd like to play in. Like you say, loads to do. I reckon that people are too used to constant stimulation these days. Which is why it's considered stressful to have to be alone with not much to do. The world is run by extroverts - morons the lot of them.

God yeah - kids are constantly exposed to noise, activity, shiny things. They can not manage their own company or solitude.
Worrying that the hyper-generatino will be in charge one day.

No idea of the details, it was an article in a newspaper - they never give details. I expect you'd get privacy for bathroom stuff (wouldn't do it otherwise), it was an exercise in isolation and how it affects the brain, not voyeurism.

I am never bored, I don't need any outside stimulus to entertain myself with my thoughts.

    :) morons

I work in a box that's about 5 foot long and 3 foot wide and 6 foot tall. I sit there in the dark and alone for up to eight hours. I come out every hour or two for a few minutes and sometimes I speak to people when I'm out and sometimes I have to answer radio calls. Other than that I'm completely on my own. It's a lovely job. :)
