Moving House & Changing ISP

We are moving house in the next few weeks and want to change our ISP from Tiscali to a new supplier (Sky Broadband). Bearing in mind the current problems Tiscali have should we just close our account when we move or do I need to get A MAC.

You will need to close the Tiscali account because the account is linked to your phoneline at the old property. Then when you move you will have to order a new service from who-ever you wish

If however you have any time remaining on your contract (if you are still in the 12 months for example) then you will have to pay the remaining contracted terms - otherwise you just have to give them the required notice that you are leaving them. DO however do it in writing so you have a paper trail
As you are leaving the property you CAN just cease the line - assumign you have a BT line then this will place a "cease" order on your line - automatically ceasing the BB too regardless of provider. However this can often cause problems with BB providers as BTs system doesn't always communicate this information properly... However if you cease the line through BT then Tiscali won't be charged for the line as of the date it's ceased and therefor any argument about continued charges would be very weak in OFCOMs eyes... So long as they don't provide a service to you (which if the line is ceased they physically can't) then they are not loosing money and therefor they can't charge you (unless you are still in your initial 12 or however many months it is you signed up for...)
Short answer is you don't need a MAC for your new house - however it will probably take a couple of weeks to get any ISP to connect you up...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
