If you read the log in page there is a warning there about fraudulent emails although it does not explain about Phishing......

One thing I'm wondering though: when i transferred my DD's I asked A&L if they could all be chaged to the 28th of the month, so the money that I am transferring in on the 1st would sit there for the longest possible time earning interest. They may have totally ignored my request, but assuming this happens and under present circumstances, I may be getting into trouble with some of the DD recipients. Perhaps I need to speak with CS...

A&L wil have no control on the date when your DDs get paid, as it's up to the Originator (i.e. the DD recipient) to make their claim on whatever date the arrangement is set up to be paid.

Standing Orders are a different matter, as you can decide when you want A&L to make the payment for you.

as I recall you can't just leave these accounts open as they have charges if you don't fund them.

That's correct...I can't remember the exact amount, but for those who opened the A&L premier direct account: it's well worth checking (and closing the account, in writing), otherwise you will lose more than your sign-up bonus was worth

It's £5 p.m., although the wording was something like: 'we can charge ...'
  • I've had a joint account with A & L since Giro days, & am annoyed only new customers can avail themselves of the high rate savings account.
So I am considering closing the account, then applying for separate accounts in my name & my co-holder's name. I could also take advantage of the referral bonuses each time!
    Can anybody see why not?
    Thanks.
  • Was thinking of opening an A&L account to use a back-up for my "ingoings account", I will not be any more!

You cannot open a new Acc if you have held any A & L Current Acc in the three months preceeding a new application I remember reading this in the conditions blurb...

Got the following rather brusque explanatiion from the A&L (you would think that a customer service operation might be taught how to spell enquiries! Amazing stuff really: some people are falling for phishing e-mails, so everyone gets their limits reduced, but the phishers can still take out a grand a day. Not really joined up thinking, is it?

We have temporarily reduced the limit due to a phising attack aimed at the

I sent A&L an inquiry through their secure email facility this morning (forgot to take a copy, and there seems to be no option to look at the correspondence you have sent them), asking why they had not closed my accounts as I had requested over a month ago.

Got the following response by email tonight
    Thank you for your Email.
However , this email facility is for technical queries,
Please call the contact centre who manage your account on 08459262626 in
order to deal with this type of enquiry.

It would be funny if it wasn't so annoying. There is a special inquiry category for Technical Questions, and I didn't use that category.

I will not call them on 0845xxxxx and go through umpteen options until I get to speak to yet another clueless A&L person. Instead I will sent a snail-mail letter by recorded mail in the morning. Not that I expect them to know what to do with a traditional letter, but at least I will have a record of what I sent to them.
