Having a father there can only help the mother to recover and give them exactly what you said they need.

So in two weeks the mother will recover? It takes a lot longer than that.

The first week having the father there will help the mother get into a routine with the baby.

    The second week ????????
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

And those without "offspring" are never off sick themselves leaving others to pick up their slack? I find that those who are regularly ill on a Monday are those without children. Some parents don't have backup and some workers without children are still suffering from saturday night on a monday.

Those with children are still recovering from a random saturday night, except the recovery has taken the form of feeding, clothing, breastfeeding someone else ;)

Who do you think I was letting rest while off work?

Most women 50 years ago never worked at all!

A very strong response by yourself do you have a problem with a farther helping look after the child and a mother during the first two weeks.

Excellent! If you hadn't posted that response then I certainly would have done. My wife was lucky to be up on her feet and out shopping after 3 days. Most women are out of hosital within hours now - that was unheard of 30 years ago and 60 years ago it would have been a week or more. If they were in hospital then they'd have been looked after by staff. Now a lot more of the after care is the fathers duty.

What did she do when you went back to work? Or are you one of these men who think a womens body can recover in 2 weeks?

Why do you think this should only be for the first two weeks? Did you stop being hands on when you came home from work or at the weekends? Being a good father is going to have last a lot longer than the 2 weeks off work you were given.

Sorry farthers are more hands on than any time in the past (well the ones that still are in a family unit)

Ok, I'll bite. What do you think fathers are doing now, that are more hands on than new fathers of say, 20 years ago?

Which is why getting some practise in on the playstation should be seen as 'investment time' for family bonding later on. A gaming father is a responsible father.

It is you who has a very sexist tone.

I think I will not respond as I will not be drawn in to a sex war with you.

i help my wife as much as i can and am a proud parent.

Your views to be similar to the males that kept women from voting etc but in reverse

I belive in equality and try not to let sex, race, class distort my views.

You may like to try it one day rarther than making out stuff i never said.:p

With my latest baby I had her on the friday evening, out saturday morning and was in tesco on the monday doing the shopping. I am still on maternity leave. I am very lucky my employer gived full pay for 26 weeks then SMP for 13. I work in the private sector. I am allowed to work 10 KIT days which I have been doing. I am also only a phone call away if i am really needed.

My OH really enjoyed paternity leave because he got to bond with littelest pixie as well as do some feeds to let me rest or give 100% attention to our eldest child so as she would not resent her little sister.
