I think I'll take Dave30 advise and seek professional advice.
For all you know you may well have received professional advice in this thread.

Heck, you may even have received it from someone you got annoyed with. You never know.

I'll bite my tongue on the subject of you allowing your parents to support you.

If they've got Carers Premiums added onto their PC as you said, and the PC calculation accurately reflects their capital (though there are 'assessed income period' rules which often work to peoples' advantage, but not always - that is the subject of another thread), then the ONLY way their PC can be increased is if you get yourself onto the Middle Rate of DLA Care.

Then all of you can claim Severe Disability Premium.

And if the three of you juggle the Carers Allowance/Carers Premium setup you'll all also be able to get Carers Premiums added onto your benefits.

The info/advice given here is good - both from a benefits and moral point of view.

It is possibly asking a bit much to expect people to answer a technical question and at the same time expect them not to comment on something they feel doesn't stack up in the set-up.

    Life's a funny thing.

    You can have your cake.

You can eat it - and as much of it as you like.

But you can't always control whether or not you get indigestion. It may well be a natural consequence of the choices you've just made.;)
Thank you webtalk. I didn't set out to insult anyone but feel some of the comments are a little unfair regarding the moral issues when they don't know the facts. On the benefit pov I have the advice and thank you for it. I'm now off to bed so bid you all goodnight.
  • I think that before you go and talk to CAB, you should look at your income, and how much you cost your parents.

Not to be horrid, just because a benefits advisor will simply ask why your parents are trying to claim for more money if they can afford to keep you.

If they can afford to keep you, they dont need the £100. If they need the £100, cough up what you cost. If they wont accept cash, buy food, pay for gas/electric...be imaginative, there are ways you can contribute.

If they won't take any money off you why don't you buy some food every week or offer to pay one of the bills or something ?
Not being horrible but you really do need to contribute something......what are you doing with your money if you are not using it to pay your way ?
I agree that if they are keeping you, then it does sound odd they are needing more money (although of course they should get what they are entitled to!.

Don't come here often, but was told to come and have a look.

Seems a sad situation really, when someone is looking for the maximum amount possible to gain from the system, yet on the same token, abuses others when they suggest the problem could simply be resolved by using some of this money they recieve to help in the family. As for not much money, well thats where I gave up.

Possibly the worst part of all this is they all appear to be pretty well off from previous posts, doing nicely with the savings.

Sorry if I come in late and the discussion has changed!!

You are right like others who have posted and the discussion has carried on but it seems like the OP did not like the sensible honesty he was given and has scuttled away to check the family investments.

Even as a 17 year old on a YTS scheme I paid my parents £5 a week keep out of £23. It wasn't much but it was the principle.

I always paid keep but it seems out of fashion now. Most of my neices and nephews don't pay their parent keep as they are paying off student loans etc. I will still take keep off DD if she is at home when working. I might choose to put the money aside as savings for her but she must know she has to pay her way in life.

totally agree. If DS is still living here when working i reckon i'll need the money to keep him in food - he eats like a rugby team (yet is skinny as a rake!)

DS2 following in his footsteps too:rotfl:

I think it helped me how to budget on that £20 a week!
