  • I completed the Vision2Learn 'Next Steps in IT' course in April 2006, but I am still waiting for the certificate!! Having contacted the college (Newbury), I was told that they were waiting for my coursework to be validated by the external examiner, but it should be done within a couple of months. That was back in January!!! I have since tried to contact the college and Vision2Learn at least 5 times to find out what is going on, but I have had no response.
If you want to take a course to learn how to do something then they are very good, if however you want to take the course to gain a certificate to add another string to your bow when you apply for jobs, as I did, then I think you would be better off looking elsewhere, even if it means paying for the course.

i had the same problem as you but in april 2005 but i finished the course in 9 days instead of the usual 8-9 months. i did recieve the certificate but not until january 2006 which is far too slow for the hard work i put in.

the company running this seems to be the same as vision2learn, who were also offering free courses a while back, and on top of that they were also giving cashback for signing up via the various cashback sites, £3.50 through greasypalm for example, might be worth investigating, if they have a similar cashback scheme... or the old vision2learn one is valid for this company too.

I don't know about Greasypalm, but they are certainly a partner at RPoints! There you get 375 points (£3.75) once you have completed your 6 week free course (that might explain why people are asking when it gets credited?)

If you go to their Easy Points page:

    http://www.rpoints.com/e10/

and scroll down, they are about 9 from the bottom.

I had someone come and speak to me about doing a home study course. It was with skillsoft or skillstrain (something like that) Not sure how I applied but I had been looking for the MCSE couse online and I must have clicked on or enquired about their courses online somewhere.

They were awful. I had expressed an interest in doing my MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) course . I got a phone call from the company and they arranged for a sales person to come and see me.

I was really excited until the sales guy turned up at my home and didn't appear to know anything about the MCSE course whatsoever. He tried to tell me that an MCSE course was just an extension of Word, Excel etc and wouldn't be suitable for me with my level of education/training.

He then tried to convince me that I would be much better off doing a Sage qualification. And then waffled on for aaages in sales-speak about what advantages this would give me in the workplace and that every business in the country needed their books kept in order ,totally ignoring the reason (and product) I had invited him into my home for in the first place.

I was almost expecting him to say "do you think as a woman you might be better off staying in the kitchen and making me some pie" and then try to sell me a nice shiny set of double glazing to go with my Sage course .

In retrospect I should have asked him if he was stupid and didn't know what an MCSE course actually was or was he implying that I was stupid and believed his b****x and either way I wanted him out of my house.

Instead I sat and seethed and couldn't wait for him to leave or my boyfriend to come home, whichever happened first. My boyfriend said I should have made a complaint to the company but lucky for the dodgy salesman I couldn't remember the actual name of the company involved and had no paperwork with it on.

I've put in an application to do Business Information Systems at Uni instead if I don't get the job I've just been interviewed for. This experience has put me right off applying to companies offering courses online :( But very, very relieved that there had been no money involved.

    So has anybody actually:

    1) Finished one of these courses
    2) Received the certificate?

I'm quite tempted to do one, maybe even in just Health and Safety to put it on my CV.
